11-11-2009 - 13 week check up

My mood while writing this blog: Thrilled!

Today I went for my regular checkup...I'm 13 weeks 2 days. We discussed my concerns about my spotting on and off throughout this pregnancy and he said that it's only been light spotting and all of my ultrasounds have been great, so he's not concerned. He thinks I may have a very small subchronic hemmorage, but believes that it should heal itself by 20 weeks if not before. He also said there isn't much cause for concern as I've never had cramping with my spotting and I had a history of spotting as well with my DD and went on to have a perfectly normal, healthy baby. That made me feel great! I got weighed and thanks to my meds that help me keep food down now, I have now put on 2 pounds after losing weight for the first 10 weeks. The doctor was very happy about that. My blood pressure was good too...110/60. The doctor also told me that all of my bloodwork that I had done came back perfectly normal.

Next thing was and is always the most exciting part for me...listening for that amazing heartbeat. He warned me not to get discouraged if he couldn't find it right away because they are still small at this point, but he put it on my stomach and BAM...within 1 second there it was!!! It was SO loud and he said it was nice and strong at 160 bpm!! Yay!!! I could seriously listen to that all day and never get sick of it!! The most beautiful sound in the world!

The last thing I did was get my H1N1 vaccine. Not everyone is comfortable getting it, but it was the right choice for me. I'm pregnant and work in a hospital, so that puts me at doubley high risk...now I just have to wait two weeks for it to kick in and start protecting me and my angel!

It was a great appointment and the perfect end to the day! It was raining and dreary out today, but hearing that heartbeat and having such a great appointment made me feel like the sun was shining on my face!!
