| 04-11-2008 - Tanner's page pregnancy to birth | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
I NEEDED TO FIX MY PROFILE PAGE SO I CUT AND PASTED MY BIRTH STORY AND MY PREG STORY FROM TANNER.... ENJOY
6 lbs 11.8 oz 49.5 cm long and 35 cm head. He is already bigger than his birth weight. 3050 at birth and now he is 3095. He gained 6oz in a one day span. The health nurse said that baby gain 5-7 oz in a week. That they are usually still smaller than there birth weight in the first week. NOT US!!! My little porker loves the boob!!! What a boy...
Here is our story:
We were scheduled for an induction on Thursday but due to lack of nurses and to many babies, we were sent home and asked to come in Friday morning. When we arrived then, again... we were asked to go home due to an emergency c-section. They asked us to call at 4pm and maybe we could come back at 5pm. When we called... they said see you in an hour so we rushed there....
At 5:05 I had a very small amount of gel. They figured they would get me started and send me home... but 9 min later I had my first contraction and for the next hour, every 9 min I was getting them. I guess all i needed was a kick start. By 9pm I had ketones on my pee and my contractions were 5 min apart so they admitted me for the night. My 8 year old son and my mom stayed in the family room next door. (just in case) My contractions became very strong by 11pm and when they checked me I wasn't making any progress... I broke down. Crying with a cold when you need to breathe is terrible. My nose was completly plugged and I felt kinda panicked about it. By 2pm, they wanted me to get some sleep so they gave me a shot in my butt but it only allowed me to sleep between contractions.
My son ended up waking up and coming in and sleeping on my husband in the arm chair. I didn't want to wake them so I had to concentrate and breathe (not scream) through my contractions. It wasn't easy but it was very helpful for transition.
My doctor showed up at 8am to give me the gel to start me again not knowing that i was in full swing... He checked me and I was 1cm but they couldn't feel his head. He said he would come back at lunch to break my water. Then I started to get major back labor. At 11am with my brother, son and hubby (no woman)... my water broke. What a weird feeling. They broke mine at 8cm with my son. They checked me then and I was 6cm already but still couldn't feel the head. Really weird!
Sometime shortly after that, I kinda felt like I needed to push. (not that overwealming feeling but...) All morning, I was able to breathe under each contraction (not scream) and focus on my head pushing through the pillow. Unfortunaltly, I wouldn't let Cory help me much. I didn't want to be touched. They asked me to go to the bathroom and just standing up... changed everything! My contractions got major worse, the pushing feeling got worse....everything got worse!!!
I got back to the bed and a bit before 3pm my doc showed up wanting to check me but the contractions were on top of each other and I sure kept him waiting. I am in awww how the body takes over to do what it needs to do... the pushing feeling OMG!!! When I finally allowed my doc to check, all he could say was "well, you can push now!" lol.... I went from 0 to 10 in like 5-7 hours...
Tanner arrived at 4:17 posterior and by his forehead. Hense why they could never feel his poor little head. He had some pretty major bruising and a lump. I ended up with a broken (fractured) tailbone. My hubby and mom were in the room. My son came in as soon as Tanner was washed and cleaned up... It did the entire thing with no drugs!!! I was completly alert afterwards. We didn't end up going to bed till almost midnight. I had morphen with my son and ended up sleeping right after the birth for the entire day. My son and hubby stayed in the hospital with us every night.
We were 1 out of 7 babies that were born naturally. The rest were all c-sections. We were born last and came home Monday late afternoon before the rest of the babies. I felt like I could have gone home on Sunday but... the bruising could have caused Jaundice so for the babies sake, we stayed.
Tuesday morning we just had rushed back there at about 9 am. Good ol Braeden being a fantastic big brother came to me saying that there was an “emergency” and that I had to come fast! I told him to use that word if he really needed me for anything re: baby. Just cause I tend to tell him 5min…(haha) never again!
When I got to the bassinett… it was full of blood. I’ve never seen so much blood on a baby and it was all over his face, nose, mouth, ears and his white blanket was covered with blood and clots. It was the worse thing to see. It made it worse because of the huge bruise on his forehead and a blood abrasion on the side of his head so when I saw all the blood all I could think of was some pressure on his brain of worse. It was coming out his nose and mouth and the clots on the back of his head like omg….. I can’t get this picture out of my head. So I phoned the maternity floor and thankfully my doc was there. They didn’t notice any gashes (we didn’t either) and figured it came out his mouth (puked) so they pumped his tummy and it had blood in it (old and new).
Then they asked me to look at my boobs. Can you believe that my cracked nipples and a popped blood vessel caused him to swallow soooo much blood that he puked it up? There were clots on the blankey…. I am so fucked up that that was the reason! I am not going to put him down again. All I can think now is that he could have swallowed it! Gesh! I’d rather be at work (jk)…I wish that someone would have warned me about that at prenatal class. Even my doc said that she had to learn it during her residency...!
My son and my hubby were amazing... my nurses were amazing... my doc (even in his jeans and fleece) was great! (he wasn't expecting me to be ready to push. he was busy coaching his son's hockey tournament)...lol!!!
