| 09-9-2008 - Tuesday 9/9/08 - My BABY SHOWER Story | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
There was some ups and downs to my shower. Remember this is my first child so I had high expectations to everything. Also, I am a perfectionist party planner so things need to go accordingly. I feel the more effort you put into it, the more you get out of it. FORGET TRADITION, IT'S OK TO PLAN AND HOST YOUR OWN BABY SHOWER. Next time I will. If anyone wants to tell you any different, tell the to KISS YOUR PLACENTA! :)
Eventually I enjoyed my shower. Now I know to not ask for any help and just do everything myself. I had to decorate the place myself because everybody had something to do that should have already been done. I had my shower at a park community bldg. Good thing the guy was very helpful or else I would have had to put the tables and chairs down myself too.
I was really pissed at my mom because she kept b***hing about using my cousin's drink fountain. I knew that was a bad idea when she told me whose fountain it was for. I kept telling her to just use a nice punch bowl! When my guests got there at 3:30, I had nothing to offer them to drink. Supposedly my cousin brought the fountain to grandpa’s house but she brought the wrong cord. (?) If my mom would have picked it up when I told her to and made sure it worked, there would have been no problem. She pissed me off so much about using this stupid fountain that I told her forget you handle that. Looked what happened. She won’t be planning my wedding. I just need you to attend, smile, and be there on time.
My host showed up extremely late (the end of the party 5:30 when my party started at 3:30). She was supposed to bring the snacks and have the games ready to go. So, I had nothing to offer people to snack on or drink. Then, when she got there, she only gave my sister the games to play. A host needs to be able to speak up, get people’s attention, and let them know what’s going on before you just hand them something. Good thing one of my sister in laws, showed up on time (the cook) so at least I was able to feed the guests and buy time until we started the real shower games.
Other than that, it was ok. My fiance and I don't need to buy our baby anything. We were more than blessed. We got 2 car seats, one including the stroller, plenty of clothes, wipes, and a host of other useful and cute things. My guests that arrived late said they had a blast. But I know the guests that arrived on time realized that it was kind of unorganized. My fiance keeps telling me to let it go but it's kind of hard. I feel that it was my party and it reflects me.
I don't do unorganized. If I'm planning an event, expect to have the best time of your life. If you arrive late, I keep going and nobody will miss out on anything. It's like you being late for a meeting. The meeting doesn't start when you get there. It starts at the time it was agreed upon. If you get there late, the meeting doesn't start over to fill you in. You just have to pick up and keep up.
At least it's out of the way. Now I can start planning my wedding!
