21-8-2008 - Thursdat 8/21/08 - FMLA (For My Lazy A**) OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

I just left my supervisors office to turn in my time sheet. We started talking about arrangements for someone to cover me when I leave to have my baby. At this point my supervisor was assuming the regular 6 to 8 weeks. Then, I mentioned to her that Efren and I have been talking about the what ifs about me taking off the whole 3 months under FMLA. I pretty much had reality given back to me. I was told that the position I have now might not be avaliable to me. I'm an admin. assistant / receptionist because my desk is the closest to the front. Well, I was told that I might not have the same position when I return. I asked is this a good thing or a bad thing? I forgot what she said, she didn't give me a stright answer. She just said she can't promise me that I will have the same position when I return. She said FMLA only guarentees that I'll have a job not the same position. It kind of made me sad. Because when I first started with the company, I didn't get hired on full time until a year later. (Meaning I was no longer a contractor) I'm upset because I'm like why can't we just hire a contractor for 3 months? I didn't even ask. So I mentioned it to my fiance' but we haven't just sat down and discussed it yet. He said that's something we need to talk about later. ( I guess when we get home) Ever since I can remember I've always put other things before me. When my father passed, instead of staying home I went to school. When my brother got married, I had to work (I was a waiter $2.13). Now I'm having my baby and it seems like I'm faced with having to put something before me again. This time it deals with my child. I won't do it anymore. It has to stop somewhere and I choose now. I have 2 associates degrees, one in Applied Science - Accounting and the other in Arts. I can substitute or something. I'm currently working on my bachelors. That's another thing that worries me, I work in corporate America for an Oil & Gas company. Depending on your position they prefer people with a bachelor. I just hope that it doesn't get used against me. Meaning, they place me in a position I don't like and say well, this is it because you don't have a bachelor's degree. I've been passed up on promotions 3 times because of that. 1st when I first started, another girl was given the job. 2nd, about a year ago. 3rd, this month. The people they hired were contractors. There was nothing different besides they had a bachelors and I had an associate. I did their background check (I'm in HR). I really feel that FMLA stands for For My Lazy A** because I'm no longer under the doctor's care, I just choose to stay home. You win and you lose. But this time, I'm not going to lose...

Honey please...I used the hell out of my FMLA plus some! It's my right, and I wasn't going to let that pass me by. I work too hard, and I think I deserve it. Enjoy your time off because you've earned it. When I return to work it will be 5 months for me...
