My mood while writing this blog: Frustrated |
So Edwin has this weight issue. It all started when he was about two months old and only gained 7 oz in 21 days. Now I wish he would gain that! I took him to the Ped. Friday the 15th and he had only gained 3 oz in a month! They ask asll sorts of questions like are you stressed out. How is your home life? Do you have a good relationship with your husband? Etc. I don't care about those questions because that isn't what is affecting his weight. The one that hit me the most was do you have a history of Cystic Fibrosis in your family or your husbands. The answer is no, but for some reason that isn't sitting well with me. He had a newborn screening done when he was first born and he screened negative for CF. Could they have missed something? Is the test really accurate? Now I am all paranoid. I have started mixing a scoop of powdered formula in his cereal and giving him only high cal. veggies and fruit. We will see if that makes a difference. I feel that he is a healthy boy. His cheeks are chubby. He has fat little thighs. He is not chunky by any stretch, but he is very healthy. I wish he would just eat more. Since he was born he was never a good nurser. He eats only enough to satisfy the pains in his belly and won't eat anymore. I am talking REFUSES. He won't take a bottle so I can't give him formula except in his cereal. This not eating thing has only gotten worse since he is so interested in the world around him. Now he eats for maybe 5 min tops and won't eat anymore. That is probably what is doing it, but I sure wish the Doc hadn't of mentioned CF...Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Friday, 19 Sep HUH??? how much does he weigh now? I just looked at all his pictures and he looks healthy. Rylee weighed 13 lbs at 4 months and was 25 3/4 in long. is he anywhere near that? I hear that she small or petiete as some put it. But I would say that our babys arm cheek and leg chunk look about the same feel free to look at her. and tell me what you think. I wouldn't worry to much. and if you can't help it then ask the dr. to test him again. amazintrace -
Friday, 19 Sep My neighbor's baby has CF but it was diagnosed right away. There was no history in either of there families. He seems perfectly healthy to me - I sat with him one day for a couple of hours while she went out. Jonathan is about 3 weeks older but not too much bigger than little Chase. I know he can't be around anyone who has been smoking. She has to feed him a little babyfood before nursing for the enzymes to help him digest the breastmilk.
Try not to worry about it. Your doctor shouldn't have said anyhting like that to you unless they were offering to run a test to rule it out. Maybe he is just a picky eater. He looks perfectly healthy to me. Try not to worry hon, I'm sure the screening would have diagnosed it.
I think he is a (hurry cover Daddy's ears) beautiful baby! **smiles** ~Tracey
