11-4-2009 - My dinner party

My mood while writing this blog: tired

The evening went pretty well. We had 5 friends come over for the evening so we decided to move the table down into the living room so there would be plenty of elbow room for 7 people. This is my table:

I decided to make apple-ginger glazed chicken with a citrus spiced grilled acorn squash and then made napoleon like stacked cooked potato slices with a balsamic and basil dressing. Basically I prepped all the food in advance and precooked ingredients and sauces but then had Chris toss all the food on the grill so I wasn't spending the evening running around trying to get it all done. Food:">


Although there was one snag with using the grill. We ran out of gas in the first 5 mins and Chris and his friend had to go get some before we could cook the food. The rest of us hung out on the patio with wine, bread and cheese. We endded up eating about an hour late but everyone seemed to like the food. Everyone there was from Chris's office so we had the married couple, the engaged couple, the dating couple and one lone single person so we had a little of everything. But lovely conversation, yummy food and a little too much wine was had by everyone. After eating I cleared out the dishes and set out board games and cookies. So more wine and games where played. Around 11 Chris went to go pick up the baby so she got to flirt a little with all the people before they left.

Everyone left about 12:30 and I was good about cleaning as we cooked so it only took us about 15 mins to put away food and load up the first load of dishes. This morning I need to hand wash my china and the wine glasses and we'll be all done. Well other then switching the couch and the table back into the correct areas of the house.

My cousin watch Sophia for the evening but baby girl was not happy about missing out on the fun. She went on another hunger strike refusing to even drink juice until she was home with us. I'm going to have to start making her deal with being babysat more often.
