| 19-5-2009 - May Long Weekend | My mood while writing this blog:chilly |
For our May long weekend we went to Oliver BC, a tiny little town in the Okanagan. We left Thursday night and stayed in Cranbrook at my parents. My brother's wife had decided to bury my brother's ashes Friday morning. She wants to move on and felt like she needed closure. For those of you that don't know my brother, Barry, passed away almost 2 years ago. It will be 2 years August 24th. It was unexpected, but we are surviving. I thought I had grieved it and moved on, but Friday morning when we buried him I was a bawling mess. It was a nice short ceremony for just the family. We all put roses on his urn and a couple prayers were said, a few tears were shed and that was that. Then we hit the road to Oliver. It's a 6 hour drive and we made great time. The weather in Oliver was so nice. In the mid to high 20s all weekend. On Saturday we hit the flea market in OK Falls(my personal fav thing about this May long trip). I got some great Coach, Juicy Couture and D&G sunglasses that are knock offs, but according to my others brother's gf they look like the originals. Score! We did our Christmas in May dinner and secret Santa gift exchange that evening. On Sunday we played lawn darts and Shaun and I lost our first 2 games and were out. We spent part of the afternoon both days in the ice cold pool. It had not yet been heated so it was freezing, but the temps were high enough that we could handle the cold pool. On Sunday Corgan wanted to go in. I was a little hesitant as he is small and gets cold easier than an adult. I have always been able to swim in the cold lakes since I was a kid, but being that he is only 2 yrs old I know he gets colder easier than the rest of us. However, he could not wait to get in the pool. He practically dived in. He was shocked by how cold it was, but insisted on staying in. Teeth chattering and everything. We stayed in for a long time until I eventually got cold and then I made him get out. He wasn't happy, but agreed. We were so beat from our swim that him and I went for a snuggle and a nap after. My brother, Jeff, and his gf, Brianna, made it for dinner on Sunday night. They had been in Seattle at a couple Mariners ball games. Thankfully I had a nap as my brother wanted us to stay up all night and visit. I lasted until 10:30. LOL! Lame, I know. The other two nights I was in bed at 8 and 9 pm. On Monday we did the 9 hour drive home. We left gorgeous weather in the Okanagan and came home to rain and fog. Fun fun.
We camped in an RV there that we rented. It was nice as it has a bed so I was not uncomfortable. During the drive I got crampy and could really feel the BHs. Baby girl was very active the entire weekend except when I swam in the cold pool. She seemed to freeze up in the cool waters. Otherwise I felt great the entire trip, but I have decided that will be our last trip. I just wasn't comfortable in the van seat and would rather not put myself through that the bigger I get.
We celebrated my hubby's 33rd birthday in Oliver. It was on Friday. All day my family and I pretended we forgot about it. My mom and I had already planned our gifts and a cake, but did not say a thing to Shaun. Unfortunately when we checked in the lady that owns the campground commented that it was her birthday when filling out the registration and Shaun said, "Mine too!" At that point I had to acknowledge it. I told him I was sorry that we had forgot all about it. Later that night at dinner we pulled out the cake and presents and surprised him. He said that he knew we were doing something, but I don't believe him. He looked really bummed when I had said we had forgotten. He got a nice T~shirt made by the kids, a gift card to the Camera Store and a camera flash for the Canon rebel. He was surprised.... I don't care what he says. LOL!
I posted a 29 week belly pic. I will do a 30 week one soon....
It sounds like you guys had a great family vacation for the long weekend. I agree traveling is becoming harder and harder. We had hoped to head up north to our cottage for the long weekend (which is a little over 3 hours away) and ended up staying home as there was a bad storm that knocked the hydro in that area out. At first I was upset but then when I thought about the long car ride and the packing and unpacking I didn't mind being home lol.
I have been meaning to ask if you have seen the new baby gear by Fisher Price for the "Zen Collection" I believe there are 2 chairs a swing, bassinet etc it is the same style as your nursery decor and so maybe you would be interested ;o)
I look forward to your 30 week belly photo!!
