17-12-2009 - Surgery A little sadMy mood while writing this blog:
A little sad

I had my tubal ligation done yesterday. It went relatively well. I was in recovery longer than expected as my respiratory rate was low. The fentanyl caused my breathing to slow, but did not help with the pain. I wanted more pain meds, but due to my decreased resps I was not allowed. So I tried to purposely increase my resps by forcing myself to breath more than 8 per minute, but every time I started to count them I passed out. I was so out of it. I'd wake up again and start counting my resps only to pass back out again. I must have tried doing that for about 30 minutes. LOL! Eventually they got me an anti inflammatory and 2 extra strength Tylenols which totally helped with the pain. It also did not make me drowsy and my resps improved so I was able to go back to the day surgery ward where my worried hubby was waiting for me.

When I was released from the hospital I was prescribed Tylenol 3s that helped very well with the pain. So well in fact that they zonked me out and made my extremities numb. I never used to be so sensitive to narcotics before, but lately they knock me on my butt.

Pre op I was emotional and in tears when speaking to my OB. She asked me if I was sure I wanted to go through with the surgery which I was. It was just a little hard for me as I have been having kids for 20 years and putting a stop to it was so surreal. Being a mom is what I do best and has made me who I am today. But pregnancies have been getting harder and harder on me the older I get and I think 5 kids(technically 6) is perfect. We don't need anymore and we know how wonderfully blessed we are. However, I would love to keep having kids until nature decided it was no longer possible.

Anyhow, it went well and I am now "fixed" and cherishing every moment with my last baby(and the other four kids of course). I went to Caprice and Cannen's school Christmas concert this afternoon and I spent the entire rest of the afternoon doing running around. I got the kids Santa pics done at the Bass Pro Shop. They were free. It was too funny... I got the pic of all 5 kids done and as I was rounding up the kids to go I couldn't find Cannen to which I was informed he was still sitting on Santa's lap getting a pic of just him taken. They did it for free too... just for him. I thought that was awesome. So I have a photo of all 5 kids with Santa and one of just Cannen and Santa. LOL! While we were at Bass Pro Corgan talked me into a remote control truck. The things we do for our kids.

I survived the 7 hour trip out of the house with only extra strength Tylenol. T3's make me too drowsy to drive. I think I did pretty good for one day post op. :o) Now I have taken two T3's and I am ready for bed. Good night all.

Glad to hear the surgery went well. I can understand that it would be a bit saddening too. Super pats on the back for packing the troop up and running all those errands a day after surgery! We are amazing women who carry the world on our shoulders. And that is too cute Cannen was waiting for his picture with Santa LOL
