21-8-2008 - 15 week appointment HAPPY!My mood while writing this blog:
HAPPY!

YAY!

I had my 15 week appointment today. The doctor said that everything looks great, and in the comments sections he was filling out on his computer I saw him write "normal twins." : ) One of the babys is measuring 15 weeks 3 days, the other is measuring 15 weeks even. The dr. says it's normal. I asked him if he could tell how many placentas I have and he couldn't quite tell. He says I either have 2 placentas real close together or just 1. Hm....

The dr. said I had an option to do one of the screenings for down syndrome today, and asked if I would terminate my pregnancy if they do have down syndrome. There is no way in HELL I'd terminate my pregnancy! He said the test isn't a very good test to determine it, and in his opinion is just causes the mom to "freak out" so I said I'd skip it. These are my twins and I'm going to love them no matter what happens. Sure it would be hard if they have down syndrome and I'd be heartbroken, but I would NEVER terminate the pregnancy. Any thoughts?

On to a happier note! So, we tried to figure out the genders today. The dr. tried really hard, but all the babies wanted to do was move around like hip hop dancers and refuse to open their legs! We did get a couple of peeks though. The dr. isn't 100% sure, but he said that his guess now is that they're boy/girl twins!!!! I'm trying not to get too excited because we could go back in 4 weeks and it could be two boys or two girls. I'm so excited that he thinks there is at lease ONE girl though, I don't know what I'd do if I had two boys! I'll be in a house full of boys (including the 2 dogs!) That's a whole lot of testosterone! I'd love them anyways.

I never test for down syndrome either. My Dr said there is a 20% false positive rate anyway.

ya I had the down syndrome test done just so if my baby was down syndrome that we could prepare emotional and physically for that, and everything turned out normal. but i have heard of the cases being very questionable. I had a friend that they told her her baby was down syndrome and she freaked out and then it turned out she wasn't of course this was like 9 yrs ago now. and they have gotten better about some knowledge and testing.. but the tests that is alot more accurate isn't covered by insurance and if it doesn't matter either way to u there wouldn't be a point of u taking it.
so it seems to me u made a good choice.

congrats on the healthy twins.. fingers crossed u at leats get one girl to keep u company lol

I think that is really exciting. I totally agree with you not getting the test done for down syndrome. I am opting out as well for the same reason. The last thing we need is stress. Well, congrats. Take care and thanks for sharing.
