Addison-Rayne-Feezle`s birthstory
Labor
started at about 4AM on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. I had been to see the
doctor less than 12 hours before, and I was only 1 CM, and he set me
for induction the following week because I was not progressing. When I
woke up with cramping, I didn`t think I was in labor. I called my mom
and sister, asking them what contractions felt like. To me they just
felt like menstrual cramps. I lost my mucus plug about 7AM, and started
timing the contractions at this point. They were about 7 minutes apart
at this point. I woke my husband up, telling him that I didn`t think we
were going to wait until next week to have the baby. I told him to stay
in bed in case it was a false alarm, since he had to work later in the
day. I kept timing them, and they remained consistent. My husband ended
up getting up, I am not sure if he was more excited about his baby
possibly coming or the thought that he may not have to go to work! I
called my doc about 9, knowing he was going to send me to L&D. We
arrived about 9:30 (after hitting the Burger King drive through for
breakfast, although my husband wanted lunch so we had to wait for them
to make that) and I was only 1-2CM dilated according to the staff
doctor who checked me, and the contractions were anywhere from
4-8minutes. My doc was at the hospital doing surgeries, so he wanted me
to walk around the unit and see if things got more consistent. After
walking in circles for almost an hour and a half, I was checked by a
nurse, who said I was 4CM. She had another nurse come and check, and
they both agreed. I was admitted at 1:30. They broke my water around
5PM, and they expected me to move even more quickly. I was given an
epidural, and things were good. My family was there, and we were
hanging out. At 7PM they started the potocin, and I was at 7CM. This is
where the fun began. I stopped dilating, and the epidural stopped
working. At 9PM, I was still at 7CM, and they began talking about a C
Section. They changed my positioning again, hoping gravity would help.
By 10PM I was dilated to a 9, but the baby was still very high in the
canal and did not appear to want to come down. At about midnight I
began pushing, trying to move her down. She wasn`t moving, and the
nurse determined that she was face up. They began having me push harder
and longer, hoping to move her down and turn her. I had no pain relief
by the time I started pushing, as she was pushing down on my spine,
blocking the epidural. I don`t remember much from this point on, I
remember telling my husband over and over that I could not do it, and
that she was never coming out. My sister was in the room, and I could
see the fear in her face, as she had always had very fast, painless
labors. I ended up with a rag over my face, so I could not see anyone,
and for some reason the baby moved down between contractions when I
would lay on my side. So between pushing on contractions, the nurse and
my husband would role me from side to side. During this, another nurse
went and got the vacuum just in case, although they hid it from me.
After 2.5 hours, she finally made her way down, and my angel was born
at 2:29AM, weighing 7LB 4OZ and 21 inches long. I don`t remember
holding her for more than a minute or 2, but I remember that the whole
thing did not seem real. After the doc stitched me up (I tore pretty
badly) I was still bleeding more than usual, so they watched me closely
for the next few hours until it slowed down. They figure that I was
torn inside as well due to her being stuck for so long. I was feeling
somewhat better after sleeping for 2 hours, when they moved me to the
mom baby unit, and all I wanted was my baby back. They brought her to
me, and the first thing I did was unwrap her and stare. I had my baby!
She had a large bruise on her head from pushing against my spine, and
my husband and sister both said that her head had been very mis-shaped
when born, and the nurses even commented about how quickly the swelling
went down. Also turns out that she fractured her left clavicle bone
during the delivery, they are not sure whether or not it was when she
was stuck in the canal or the actual delivery. She is such a great baby
though, they didn`t realize it until her last day in the hospital when
the doctor noticed that it was clicking and ordered an X-Ray. No one
could believe the results when they came back, she had been lifting her
arm and using it, and never cried when it was touched or anything. She
is truly the light of our life already, and worth every second of the
pregnancy and delivery.
