Write a new blog
| 22-4-2008 - 24 week checkup |
My mood while writing this blog: auspicious |
At the checkup:
Fundal height at 25
Babe's heart rate at 165
my blood pressure and heart rate: awesome (can't remember exactly... 110/65?)
Hematocrit at 32 A little low of the recommended 36, but it was at 32 during my 7 week checkup. So if you consider that a hematocrit is the % of red blood cells, and my plasma is going up, then I've "technically" raised my iron w/ red meat supplementation alone!
Total weight gain of 19 pounds, 5 since my last visit (and 4 of those in the first two weeks since my last visit)
Shawn was able to come to this one, which was great cuz I also had a draw for my 1 hour glucose tolerance test (I hate needles). He started work at 4:15 in the morning! Poor guy! Nurse called Tuesday and my glucose levels looked good. Pshew- I've heard the 3 hour test is a BEotch.
Still dealing with infrequent bouts of debilitating stomach gas. Can't really burp, so I have to wait until it, eh hem, processes through. Can be very uncomfortable and Gas-X seems to come too late! Had to take my walk a bit slower than normal and HAD to stop mid-way, sit down, and do some stretching. Could be a lot worse!
The achey hips come and go, but definitely don't stay like they did for a couple of weeks at the middle of this trimester. A 39-week friend of mine came for dinner and was saying how she gets "doses" of relaxin, must be what happened to me? She said she drops things all the time and feels like she has arthritis, esp. in her hands (she has NO edema, lucky kid!). She mentioned that making a fist was quite painful. She also has presented w/ sugar in her urine and told the doc she refused to do another 3-hour test (her 1 hour was inconclusive at 26 weeks and she had to do a 3 hour). She told him to just treat her as if she had late-term GD and she left with a glucose monitor. So far all her levels look great, and she tests after every meal, but still has sugar in her urine! You could definitely tell that the babe had dropped into position- she lost like a month off her look! But pretty much only meat and veggies for her- what a bummer! Additionally, she's like me and can't take the fake sugars, so she can't even have diet soda or diet jello for a sweet "rush." She also let Shawn and I watch one of her bouts of BH and then pointed out the LARGE movements the baby was making. No room for kicks, so she (baby girl) slowly moves her leg down from ribcage to mid-way to the navel and back up again. My husband was gob-stopped and jaw-dropped! Very cute. Good luck, Hillary and Nick, with birthing Baby Petunia (the "we're not telling you her real name" courtesy name).
Looking ahead to the next blog: Doulas, natural birth, and hypnobirthing!
