| 31-7-2008 - Proof of baby dropping |
My mood while writing this blog: Skinned |
So, yesterday morning I looked different from the side. Baby's been slowly descending for about two weeks now: the area in front that my undies cover has been flat... then it just started bulging ever so slightly each day. No added waddle, pressure, etc. Well yesterday I thought, "WOW. My shape has really changed!" Even my boss commented on it. As if I needed more proof...
On my way to catch the bus after work, I was walking down a very slight incline. I had even left 5 mins early so I wouldn't have to rush to make the bus on time. Just a nice stroll on swollen ankles. I started to trip a little bit and thought I caught myself. Then my knees gave out and it was all pavement. BUT wait, what else do we have for this contestant, Frank??? Well, the weight of kiddo yanked me forward when I hit my knees and then I saw the pavement getting closer closer closer still. I threw out my swollen, hot hands and caught myself. Thank God. And bubs never touched the ground (though I think he would've if he hadn't dropped, which caused this whole thing anyways!).
So, swollen hot hands now with road rash. Knees skinned up. My cell phone went FLYING out of my bike messenger bag (which fits AWESOME when pregnant... right over the top of the belly, and has really helped stabilize me when I walk as it sits opposite my tummy on my back). Did I mention that this happened during rush hour. On like the 3rd busiest intersection of Madison? 2 blocks from the reknowned UW Hospital? Yeah, about 200 commuters saw me. NO ONE even opened up their window (hey, AC ain't cheap to run in a car) to see if I was okay. I mean, I was glad no one called the EMTs or anything, mostly embarrassed, but truly
shocked that no one asked if I was all right.
When I sat down at the bus stop, kiddo started bouncing around like a 4 year old who just got a lollipop. Thank God. Or I would've taken my bus straight to my hospital and demanded a doppler. My hands throbbed the whole way home. And the 90degree angle I threw my wrists out at has done some damage, making the carpal tunnel more extreme than ever today. And on top of it I have wrist pain now, too.
Then, at home, I decided to have Shawn help me water the garden. Which turned into him watering the garden (we fill a watering can from our water-drum, which collects rainwater from our gutters) and me weeding/picking fruit. And I nearly fell again. This time, slamming into a 6' rebar cage for our tomatoes stopped me from hitting the dirt. But ouch. When was my last tetanus shot? I think I'm good... Thank you, Shawn, for hammering those cages in so deep, or I would've been in real trouble! Did I mention that I was out in little gym shorts and a bikini top? I thought it was super sexy, and so does Shawn. The mosquitoes just think of it as easy-access. And pulling squash vines (which have prickles on them, to which I'm highly sensitive) wasn't the BEST idea... Now I have a reaction going on my forearms and across my belly. Add on the bruises on my knees. Hopefully I get a couple of days to mend before delivery, or the doctors are going to think there are some problems at home.
After all this, I walked into the house, opened up one of our home-brewed beers (aptly named "Baby Boy Brew") and poured myself half a bottle. It took me 2 hours to drink 1/3 of it, but I really enjoyed the taste. At that point, I think it was actually warmer than room temp and I had given up. Plus, at that point, Shawn brought home ice cream for me. Beer or ice cream? Pre pregnancy answer: Beer. Yesterday: Beer down the drain, ice cream on its way through my system.
Kiddo: Olly Olly Oxen-Free... I'm ready when you are!!

Friday, 1 Aug Hope that you are ok now!
I also seem to have no sense of balance at the moment. Tripping over my own feet most of the time...maybe it is because I haven't seen them for a while and forget that they are there!
I think that I have dropped a lot more too! Baby is still lying back to back, hope that he changes when the time comes. My boobs are killing me at the moment and just feel generally tired! I really hope that our guy comes before the 7th, otherwise it is no home birth for us!!! Hold thumbs ok!
Take care

Thursday, 31 Jul I'm sorry that you fell! That happened to me last week, on my birthday I might add and I did go to the hospital to get monitored per my doctors orders. I think we're just so top heavy that we are starting to get more clumsy. Sure hope this babe comes soon!
