**(10/31; to my mom before she came to babysit for the day/night during a wedding) SUPER SUPER SUPER BABY ADVISORY, CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED! BEWARE! Last night,
around 8:30p.m., our first gigglefest occurred. Augustin was nursing during
Grey's Anatomy (really, just for comfort) and dad came "to visit" during a
commercial (looks over the back of the baby and tries to get him to pop off and
play with him; I think it's a jealousy thing). I mentioned how I like Augustin
in shirts instead of onesies cuz I can slide my hand underneath while he nurses
and have some skin-to-skin time. Dad said he liked it cuz he could pull it up
and ZERBERT his belly (at "ZERBERT", he did zerbert him). Laugh laugh laugh
laugh. Mom and Dad look at each other, shock and awe, then smile. Zerbert.
Laugh laugh LAUGH laugh. I touched his tummy, but he must've been expected a
zerbert. Laugh. Zerbert. (mom's near tears at this time, not happygiddy
tears, but "development" tears?) laugh laugh laugh laugh. Babe looks at
Shawn. Laugh. Zerbert. Laugh laugh laugh. It was SO great. I did it this
morning on the changing table and it worked again, but only once. I think he
was still sleepy. You've been warned. The kid knows funny and not funny. Try
not to be hurt if he doesn't find something funny. Right now, it's pretty much
only fart noises (so you're set! :-) )
**(11/3; to my cousin's pregnant wife) OOOHH, I'm just getting so excited for you! Once you have the babe, every pregnant mom you see will make you gush. I walked past one in the mall this weekend and smiled at her all lovely, but I'm sure she was like, "WHO is that wacky lady smiling at me like that? I need a pretzel... and to go to the bathroom..."
p.s. The ONE thing that snuck up on me, so I'm warning you. There will come a day when you realize you can't look down and see the toilet underneath you. And you won't remember when that all of a sudden happened! HEHE, and when you realize you can't reach the parts you need to reach... and have to do strange yoga moves just to get cleaned up! TMI, but I thought it was SO funny. Everything that happened because I was getting bigger made me smile (even the achey back) because that meant someone inside me was doing his job: getting big and ready!
p.p.s. Augustin is LAUGHING out loud now. And smiling when he hears our voices, and turning his head to find us if we aren't in his field of vision yet. His swatting has become more purposeful and he rests his hand on my breast as he nurses. He'll stare into my eyes and every now and then pop off just long enough to smile at me, then turn his head back abruptly (like, "How DARE you distract me?!) and get back to some serious nursing. I LOVE those moments, because no one else, ever, will have those with him... Ah. This is so great, Amy.
**(11/6; to a friend whose little one is 2 mos older than Augustin, her name is Lola) Augustin is 11 weeks old now and he seems like a tank. He started laughing
out loud, and they're still few and far between, but that makes them so much
more valuable! He's like Lola in that he'd prefer to stand on your lap rather
than sit on it. He's also rocking out the exersaucer at daycare. We use ours
at home sometimes, but have to put a couch cushion on the saucer for his feet to
be supported (yeah, I know, you're not supposed to do that, but he loves those
toys!). He's also practicing "intentional swatting" and it's really neat to
watch him concentrate on getting his arms to do what he wants. Though he fails
more than he is successful, but MAN does he get excited when he hits one of
those toys. Especially in his bouncy seat.
**(11/6; to my sister, who gifted us a bouncy seat and infant swing... which Shawn rigged up to be able to plug in instead of using batteries, what a dad!) Augustin's able to grab things! He hearts his bouncy chair toys SO much and "phantom marches" when he swats one successfully. It's cool to watch him concentrate, focus, focus... aww, missed it. focus, coordinate movements, totally miss. Focus, concentrate, WOOHOO! THE SPINNY THING SPUN... I MADE THE SPINNY THING SPIN! Then he gets so excited, legs and arms everywhere, head thrashing around, so he ends up hitting all the toys several times, on accident, but that feeds a continuing FREAK OUT. Hilarious. He has also fallen in love with the sea animals that swim above his head in his swing. When he's fighting tired, we have to turn them off, or he keeps himself awake to keep an eye on their travels... their endless travels!
