08-9-2009 - what *I* want to do...

My mood while writing this blog:

OK this is mainly me venting and getting down in words what I want to do in my near future...feel free to comment if you have any input or advice...

Some quick background info: my fiance just graduated with a graphics design degree. i have 2 years of college done but took off a year when i was pregnant and had my son. i was going to IU (so expensive) so this fall i switched to ivy tech (much cheaper). i was doing Folklore at IU and i absolutely LOVED it and i know thats what i want to do in my future. when i switched to ivy tech they only offer a few majors here, so i chose the best from the list which was early childhood education.

So I'm in my 3rd week of classes and i REALLY don't like it!! Im going to finish this semester since I have already started, but I dont want to continue in a degree that i dont like, it is hard to get my homework done since there is NO motivation. yes i like children, i have taught preschool and liked it, but this is not something i see myself doing for the REST OF MY LIFE. Also, I have put off getting married bc right now my schooling is paid for by the government (at ivy tech)...but i dont want to keep going there and i dont want to wait 2 more years to get married. if i go back to IU (like i want to) then the money the gov gives me for school wouldnt even cover 1/4 of my expenses! so i want to just get married anyway. right now i want to be a wife and a mom! i dont want to go to school right now, especially for something i really do want to do. i feel like i am doing it for everyone else, to make everyone else happy (like my mom and family). i want to be a SAHM until my children are in school. right now i just have Forest who is 10 months...i would like to have another baby or two, stay home with them, THEN go back to school for Folklore when i can also work a part time job to pay for it as im going. I just feel like I will get so much judgement like"why arent you back in school? why arent you doing anything? wat about your future?" etc...well hello being a wife and full time mom IS doing something!!! i think i worry too much about what everyone else wants me to do and not what *I* want to do. ya i could get my college paid for right now if i went for something i didnt like and put the rest of my life on hold for 2 years...or i could live my life for RIGHT NOW and do what i want and be happy and then always go back to school later.....

Let me say this, I am a graphic designer and do my own home business for now to make extra money. But if your husband is lucky enough to get a reall good job in that field, which I haven't had any luck, and you don't have to worry about how your going to make income, then be a sahm. As for me, I wish I can go back to school for ECE, I did a mistake and not get a degree in teaching and went a whole either route, and hit myself on the head for doing this. My husband has a real good job, we are both 28 and 29 years old. My hubby works as a parelegal, and he wants to go back to school to be a lawyer. I can't go back to school at all because I have school loans that I need to pay off before I decide to go back, and it's going to be forever. If you are not happy and want to stay home, be a wife, then do so. Just make sure you have income coming from both ways equally to pay things. I know that right now the jobs that are officially hiring and you know that you will have good money coming in are Forensic science, Drs, Nurses, School teachers, lawyers, all the high jobs. Unless you plan on opening up your own business. I know without a degree in anything it will be difficult get any job that qualifies good money. I dread the fact I may have to work at a store job for a second job and all that money I went to school for will never get paid. It's a competitive world, so getting a good job is important. To this day I regret having not chosing to be a teacher instead. Where I live they are hiring so many, and I could have had a better job than working in a dental office stuck with office work. Ugh but that is life. Just follow your heart.

you absolutely need to do what is best for you !! If being a SAHM is what you want right now, be that. Go ahead and get married- that's awesome, have more babies like you want, enjoy them, and do not care about your family judging you and your choices, it's your life, you do not need their approval or criticism, they should respect you and your choices and be happy for you. Look forward to the future, but enjoy now, even though when you do end up going to school- and having to pay for it yourself, you'll be rewarded in the end, when you have the degree you want, the job you want, and the happiness. I think you need to do what works for you and your family yes your parents opinion is important but you need to do what is best. If your not really into your classes then stop going if you can. I am expecting my 4th child now my 1st 2 are 16 and 11 and I was a stay at home mom all the time with them. I did go back to school when my youngest was 4 because I went through a divorce after 8 years of marriage. I finished nursing school and am glad I did. Now I have a 14 month old and I went back to work 3 days a week when she was 4 months old and it was the hardest thing to do for me and I was off by 3. I was off all summer and had to return 3 days a week until I have my baby due 11-8 because I carry my insurance so I need it to cover delivery. Anyway after this one I will get to stay home full time and am so glad. I have huge respect for stay at home moms and working moms I have done both and I am so glad to get to stay home again. I did not get my nursing until I was 29. You are young you have time to have your babies be with them then return to school later when you are ready. Being a mom is so important and if you can stay home. Sorry so long just telling you my story and things do work out- go with what is best and follow your heart on it. Good luck!.
