02-9-2008 - 16 week ultrasound overjoyed! My mood while writing this blog:
overjoyed!

Today we had our 16 week ultrasound and I'm delighted to let you all know that it went really really well! Our baby continues to look healthy and is growing exactly as s/he should!

The main objective of our scan today was to get a good look at baby's spine and luckily we got an excellent view from top to bottom and it looks totally normal. Our consultant was happy to be able to rule our neural tube defects now which are the conditions we were at high risk for. I'm just so happy and relieved!!

We also got to hear baby's heartbeat today but again they didn't tell us how fast it was! Still it sounded beautiful and strong! They got a good view of the heart, it's amazing how clearly we could see all the valves and the four chambers.. again, all looking wonderful!

Baby was active and kept turning and rolling around during the scan... at one point s/he was taking deep 'breaths', just like they say in the books that babies practice breathing.. well it looked just like s/he was breathing with that little tummy going up and down rhythmically!

We were in two minds for a while whether we'd find out what we are having. I initially wanted a surprise and hubby really wanted to know so I decided to give him the choice. Well, after a while of thinking about it he decided that he was happy not to know so we didn't ask today. I have had strong 'girl' feelings right from the start of this pregnancy and at one point when the sonographer was examining the very base of the spine she had the probe looking quite closely between the legs. She didn't say anything and we didn't ask but having looked at LOADS of scan pics and videos on U-tube I sort of knew what one would be looking for. I didn't say anything at the time but I did tell Mike afterwards that from what I saw (and of course I'm no expert!) I think it may indeed be a little girl... I definitely didn't see anything remotely looking like a 'turtle' between those legs!! I may be right, I may be wrong and that doesn't bother me at all... We've agreed not to take my 'diagnosis' too seriously and so we'll enjoy our speculation but we're not going to tell people about it...but it sure will be interesting to see if I am right in February!! We were planning a pretty neutral colour scheme regardless so be it boy or girl our plans remain the same!

I'm just so delighted that our baby looks well and healthy, that is really all that matters... guessing and wondering about the gender is a bonus but it really doesn't matter... except now we really need to think about girls names as we are totally undecided!

I've added our latest scan picture to my collection.

Next scan will be 3rd October when I'll be nearly 21 weeks.

Thanks again to all the kind messages and support girls, this site is just wonderful! Baby Dust to All :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Oh congratus on wonderful scan!!! I'm so happy to hear that everything is looking good! I can't decide if I want to know what it is or not. I know DH does and like you, I'll probably leave the decision up to him being that I get to make most of them.
