| 05-6-2009 - 35 and 37 week appointments | My mood while writing this blog:Happy |
Well, we're nearing the end of this journey and this could be my last blog before the big event! My doctor said I am considered full term between 37-40 weeks, so everything should be fine if I go into labor from this point on! Yikes!
I had a doctor's appointment on May 24th. He did an exam (the first one I've had since the very beginning) and found that I was 1 cm dilated and my cervix was soft to medium-soft. The baby's head is in the right position and the baby tends to favor my right side. He's been there for a while now. The doctor said most babies like to hang out on the right side, because the colon is located on the left and absolutely does not move like the rest of the organs do when the baby gets bigger.
Not much has happened in the two weeks since my last appointment. The baby feels like he has dropped a little as I'm feeling him move around much lower than before. My bladder is definitely getting a workout with him sitting on it! I just had another doctor's appointment today and will be at 37 weeks tomorrow. The nurse gave me the option of having an exam and I couldn't say no! I have been feeling a little more crampy lately and thought there may have been some progress. The doctor said I'm pretty much the same as last time with no effacement yet. He said I'm carrying "beautifully" and hide my baby well due to my long torso. I think he says that, because he doesn't spend much time with me when I'm in a normal sitting position with my belly sticking straight out! The doctor also said I'm measuring about 36 weeks, which is still on target for a June 27th due date. I asked him how long he would let me go before the possibility of getting induced and he said around 41-42 weeks. He said it's best to let things progress naturally.
It's probably good nothing major is happening yet. This weekend we are working on finishing our landscaping around our house (finally after 4 years!) and I have a little family get-together at my mom and dad's tomorrow to celebrate Father's Day and a couple of birthdays. We have very little planned for the next few weeks, which is probably good! I could go into labor literally any day now!
As far as feelings go, I'm very ready to be done being pregnant, but I just don't know that I'm quite mentally ready to be a mom yet! It's hard to believe it could happen any day and I really just can't quite wrap my head around the idea! I feel anxious, nervous, excited, worried, scared and very lucky all at the same time! I'm just ready to put the labor and delivery behind me and move on to becoming a family. It's going to happen soon.....!!
