30-3-2009 - What a long horrible day! Better today. My mood while writing this blog:
Better today.

Hello ladies, yesterday i had my appointment at the clinic in toowoomba. So we got there a bit after 9.30 and i had to go to the information desk where you fill out paper work so we did that then went around to the clinic, we sat for about 20minutes then i saw the midwife who did the regular things like weight, height then we filled out more paperwork and there were about 30 pages we had to fill which took about 1 hour and 20mins it seemed to go on and on and on there was so much so then she checked my bp and measured my stomach 19cm, then we heard the heartbeat so back out to the waiting room and 30mins later the doc comes over, he didnt call me into a room and he was saying that i needed to have the 18 week scan before i can see him so im saying what, i then told him why i was there so he said ill be back in a minute so we sit again then 10mins later he calls us into the room and he starts saying that there is nothing wrong with my bp and everything looks good i dont need medication and he was talking about my readings from 1996 it was then i realised he was reading the wrong sheet!! He was reading my previous bps from my other pregnancies so i said thats not the sheet i did over a week and the reason we are here so i had to find it for him (it was the 2nd sheet of paper!) so then he looks at it and says i have to speak to my consultant again so another 5mins and he comes back and says yes you do need the medication and we will have to monitor you and it was only then that he read the front page with the info from my doc! So by now hubby and i were getting very frustrated! If i hadnt said anything we would have walked out very confused and annoyed. So then we had to book a scan and another appointment at the clinic on the same day and i tell the lady we cant get here before 9.30 she says no probs theres either monday or wednesday so i say wed but no one will answer the phone so she said i will have to go there to confirm it and then we had to go to the pathology for bloods and urine then down to the ultrasound department and the man there says they have a 9am but thats it so being so sick of the place by then i take that time as we didnt want to have to go all the way back up to the clinic to change it there so after over 4 hours we were finally finished and had 40 mins to get some lunch and then 50 mins to get back in time to get the boys. So next week we will have to drop the boys off at my mums at 7.45am so we can make it in time but at least i will get into the morning clinic and not have to wait all day. So what a day we had.

18 weeks tomorrow and im already measuring at 19weeks! The midwife said this is fine as it always depends on what way the baby is lying and 1cm either side of your week is ok. Im very nervous and excited about the scan next week it has come up so fast i am hoping to find out for sure what sex the baby is but mostly to hear that all looks good. The medication is called Aldomet (methyldopa) i take it 3 times a day.

what a day! aren't hospitals grande! i had a similar day at my first ob appointment yesterday, unfortunately i couldn't get my 3 boys minded and the appointment was right on their sleep time. needless to say after 2 1/2 hrs i was ready to kill 'em. i had to have a sleep with them when i got home just to calm down. tell me if you were running a pre/post natal clinic wouldn't you have some kids books and a even a small box of toys in a corner?! absolutely nothing! i had no idea what i was going to be in for.

So sorry about your insane day :-( Glad to hear you will get to see your baby next week!!! Be careful on the new bp medication, especially when you first get up b/c it can make you dizziness. Hang in there!

Doctors are useless sometimes!

That just goes to show that doctor's do not know everything! We have to take our care into our own hands to make sure we are treated correctly. You should bill him for your services!!! LOL In any case, I hope things go well for you. I just had my 18 weeks scan, and amnio. It was scary but I got thru it and no problems. the baby was amazing to see. We saw the 4 chambers of her heart and her brain and everything. I was amazed!! Are you finding out the sex? Good luck and stay happy!

I'm sorry you're having a rough time. Hopefully the meds will help and you'll be feeling good and everything will be under control. That is so frustrating when you feel like the doc seeing you has no freaking clue what they're doing! I would have probably went off. Not under normal circumstances, but when I was prego I was temperamental to say the least and that would have really gotten under my skin. Hopefully next time they will be more organized and ready for you.

Yikes, it's a good thing you corrected him! Wow, what a day. Hopefully things will go much better for you next time!

Poor you, I can really hear your frustration. So I've decided that it's not just me that's surrounded by idiots! Clearly other people feel this too lol x Hope it's better next time for you. Keep well x
