14-4-2009 - Heart racing and high bp

Hello ladies, i had a bit of a scare today, i had been downstairs hanging out washng then i folded a few things and sat down to read my book and i could feel my heart starting to race so i went to the kitchen and checked it with my bp machine and my pulse was 198bpm. I did it again and it was 186bpm so over the next 20 mins i kept checking it and it went down a little then up and and then my bp went up to 165/128, i had text guy to come home but by the time he had gotten home it had gone down. Just to catch you up on my previous history in 2006 after having a horrible flu and not drnking enough water my heart started racing up to 238bpm and i ended up in hosptial overnight and they had to give me medication to slow it down i had tests done and they all came back normal but i was told that it would happen again. I was in trouble with guy as i was told then that if it happened again for more than 3mins to call an ambulance, but seeing that it was slowly going down i wanted to wait if it had remained up past 190 i would have straight away. Ive made an appointment with my doc. And if it happens again today i will be ringing straight away and dylan said that if i didnt ring or couldnt he would, the boys sat with me and watched the machine every time i did it they were very concerned. So now i have to rest and im drinknig extra water even though i already drink around 2 litres a day. Thanks for reading.

You poor thing! I will tell you one thing though...when I started the blood pressure pill when I was pregnant my heart rate went up into the 160s.....they had to cut my pill down and wean me up. I hope you feel better!!!

Take care of yourself Jude. It's frightening when it happens but just remember to stop and take some deep slow breaths. It's amazing how taking deep slow breaths will help with pulse rate and bp, although it won't fix it, so you will still need to call an ambulance! Be careful x

I'm very sorry to hear that you had to go through another episode like the one you had before. Feel better. I hope your Doc has some answers for you this time... it's definitely not very reassuring to hear that all of your test results came back fine, but that it will happen again....? Sounds like they're not running the right kind of tests.

Sounds like you have tachycardia, or SVT. Its common but its very scary, especially pregnant!! I got heart palpitations sooo bad with my daughter, I was ion and out of the hospital for those! You need to go get seen by your Ob so they can refer you to a heart specialist, also that B/P seems high! I'm sounding like a nurse, I am one. Let me know how things go.

I have had that feeling a few times, but haven't been able to monitor it to know what was going on. Haven't said anything to the doctor either, though I am going to. I am glad it went back down and your boys are there for you. Take care of yourself and next time (hopefully there won't be a next time!) you better be safe and just call the ambulance.

Yeah, I would call for an ambulance next time? Did they find the cause of your high bp?

You have 4 boys (and one on the way) and they all need their mum around - next time dont wait , RING THE AMBULANCE straight away!!!! they are extremely high readings and you could do some lasting damage. i am glad that it went down for you....arent you on meds now for high BP????? You may need to get it changed to one that helps you more???

That super sucks! I'm sorry to hear about this. I didn;t get high bp until the end of my last pregnancy, but it would easily get up to 190/140's. Have you tried lying on your left side when this happens? When I would lay on my left side my bp would instantly drop. I never had that rapid of a heart beat, but did have wicked PVC's. Try to relax and good luck hon! xoxox
