16-9-2009 - Birth Story HappyMy mood while writing this blog:
Happy

We arrived at the local hospital at 8am for my induction, i was admitted and all the usual things were done, i had a canula inserted in my arm due to my having my first by c-section, i was put on the monitor for what seemed like forever, finally the doctor arrived at 10 am to try and break my waters but he was unable to reach my cervix. So it was decided that i would go to the toowoomba hospital so then we had to wait for the paper work to take with us and for them to organise it with the hospital. Finally we left at 12pm we arrived there and was taken into a room and put on the monitor again for the 3rd time that day and all the usual things were done again. We were then asked to wait in the waiting room as they had another woman coming in and already had a few in labor. So we waited until just before 5pm and finally we were called back in and a doctor came in and said that she would check and see if they had the staff to cope and if they did she would try and break my waters if not they would try in the morning so after such a long day i expected her to come back and say in the morning, she came back 10 mins later and said she would try and break my waters. She reached my cervix and managed to scratch a small hole in my waters but no fluid came out so she said we would wait an hour and see what happened, within 15 mins i felt a small gush and then would feel another every few minutes i then started to get contractions. The midwife suggested we go for a walk so we went down to the cafe which was about a 15 min walk and had a drink then we went back up and i told them i was getting pains so i was suggested that i walk around some more so we went to the car park to get hubbys coat so that took another 40 mins and by then i couldnt walk through them anymore, we went back up and they took my to a labor room at around 7.30pm. I was hooked up to the monitor again and we talked about pain relief and i asked for a hotpack and a trainee doc went and got me 2. After about 30 mins a doc came in and checked me and i was 3cm and almost fully effaced i was starting to really feel the contractions and i was so tired i decided that this time i was going to except some pain relief so i opted for a epidural for the first time (i never had anything more than gas and pethadine for my other 4 births) it was going to take a little while for the doc to arrive so i had some gas while i waited, finally he arrived just after 9pm and we went through all the details and the midwife checked me just incase i was to far along i was 5cm and fully effaced. So by 9.30pm the needle went in and i must say i have never sat so still in my life i dont think i even took a breath while he was telling me to stay completely still so i started to feel the contractions ease a little and by 15mins later they were bearable again. Im so glad that i decied to have the epi. Over the next hour or so i was able to talk again but then jensens heartbeat started to drop and at 1 point it got down to 38 so they got the doc and she found that i was fully dilated but his head was still high, they decided to take some of his scalp to test it for oxygen and if he wasnt getting enough it was a c-section but thankfully he passed so i was left to push with each contraction and this was really hard work and the major downside to having the epi as with the others when its time to push my body took over and it never took me long to push them out but i couldnt feel much and it was so hard to push the right way. So some time after 11pm the doc came back and checked me again and found that his head had come down but not as far as she had hoped so she said that i had until 12.30am to get him out or she was going to use the forceps or vaccum. So i pushed and pushed and little jensen came into the world at 12.18am 3rd Sept. He was placed on my chest and he was blue so guy had to hold the oxygen over his nose, he stayed on my chest for about 1 hour. He weighed 7 p 11oz he was 53.5cms long. I only had a small tear so no stitches. In the end everything turned out for the best even though i wanted to deliver here were i live i was happy that we were in the bigger hospital.

Wow, I'm so surprised they didn't rush you into a caesar to get Jensen out when his heartrate dropped so low! It's a shame you didn't get to give birth in Dalby but I know that you and bubs are safer in a larger hospital. And no stitches... yay!
