06-8-2008 - Hospital Visit 8/5/08

Well I decided to go to the hospital this evening at my Nurse Practitioner's advice. I have been having really sharp pains shooting up my cervix area (kinda like I being poked my an ice pick, or like I am sitting on a knitting needle). I also have been feeling like I can't empty my bladder all the way. I have a severly retroverted (tipped) uterus, and my understanding is that it is supposed to move to a normal position at about 14-16 weeks. I read that if it doesn't flip over into "normal" position that it can cut off the urine flow at the urethra. This is pretty rare, but I was still concerned. So anyways, I went to the hospital and did a pelvic exam, listened to the heartbeat with a doppler, put in a cathater to make sure my bladder was emptying, and did an ultrasound. I have not had a u/s yet, so I was glad to be able to see my little bean sprout. The technician told me the baby's head is measuring at 15weeks, 2 days (I wasn't supposed to be 15 weeks until around Thursday). So I get to skip ahead a couple days.. yay! The doctor said everything looks fine. The baby's heart rate according to doppler is 144. I even got a u/s picture to take home with me. I am very happy that everything is good. The doctor told me I am probably having pain because my uterus is trying to move into a normal position. Unfortunetly they couldn't tell if it is a boy or girl. But we are going to go pay for am early gender determination u/s in a week or two and see if we can tell then.

Hey Jamers! I had those pains too, it happened in the shower about 1-2 weeks ago.. it was knee weakening... I didn't go to the dr or anything because everyone says that those are normal unless there is bleeding with the pain...

Congrats on your good results! I just found out today at 20 weeks 4 days that I am having a little boy! Best of luck to you and your little belly buddy!
