20-8-2009 - Yvette\'s hospital stay

So if you read my problem with poop blog you know that Yvette has been having a problem pooping since she was born. Well on Wednesday she refused to nurse, was screaming in pain all day and then vomited poop. That scared the hell out of me and prompted hubby and I to take her to the E.R. They took x rays, ultrasounds, did a catheter and blew 5 veins trying to draw blood and start an iv. It was a night of multiple people holding down a screaming baby and her being tortured. My husband nearly punched a nurse for shoving a needle into her arm!

After all the tests the doctors came in the room and said that her intestines had either flipped over on themselves OR had slid inside its'self like a telescope. The pediatric surgical team was not there that night, which would mean she would be sent elsewhere to have surgery that night or be hospitalized and be seen by doctors in the morning. After being there for 12 hours thay admitted her to the pediatric ward. I was not allowed to nurse and she was given nurishment via iv.

The next day the head pediatric radiologist said that the obstruction that the docs were seeing on her films was her hernia and not something waranting surgery. I was eventualy allowed to nurse her again and after trying her out on some meds we were discharged. It feels like forever since we have been home and I am EXHAUSTED! Poor baby, she went through so much. We have to go back in the morning :( so I'm going to get off the computer and TRY to get some sleep.
