29-7-2008 - Pre-term Labor Scare

My mood while writing this blog: Relieved!

Yesterday I woke up around 5:00am to get ready for work. I felt great & fully rested!!! I went to work and got back home around 9:00am. Hubby & I went to the zoo and walked around for a while! It was really hot but I made sure to drink plenty of water! I ended up having a few braxton hicks contractions while we were there so we went home for me to relax. I took a shower and laid down (on my left side) for over an hour. I also drank tons of water hoping the contractions would stop. BUT they didn't. So I called my Midwife and they wanted me to come in.

By the time we got to the hospital the contractions were coming every 2 minutes and were getting somewhat painful. They felt like menstraul cramps but short.

So they hooked us up to the monitor and took a urine sample & did an internal exam. I was still fully closed, thick and long so this was not real labor!!! However, they were noticing the contractions were coming pretty close together.

It turns out that I have a Urinary Tract Infection which was causing Uterine Irrability. I'm now on antibiotics but still have contractions. At this point they're simply annoying but no longer painful.

It was so awesome getting to be hooked up to the heart monitor! We heard every movement he made. I thought he was moving like a normal baby but the nurse was surprised by how active he was. She said it's fine for him to be that active as long as his movements don't increase suddendly!!

So, yesterday was a busy day but I'm so glad to know everything is ok with him!!!
