Just moving my pregnancy journal so my page is not so incredibly congested anymore

I am 13 weeks 4 days today. I don't go back to my doctor until February 1st and I am getting very anxious! With all of my difficulties at the beginning, I was having ultrasounds every week. Now I haven't had one in almost 3 weeks and it just feels strange! I am counting the weeks until I can find out the sex of this little one.
Also, finally a pic of my belly. This was just taken today 1/14/07 and it is the first one I have taken. It is a little distorted. It kind of doesn't look like me, but you get the idea, anyhow. I look like I should be about 5-6 months!

JUST MOMMIES IS WRONG...and so is fortunebaby.com. I had an OB appointment today and my Dr saw the telltale "cone" on the ultrasound. He is 70% sure it is a boy. I think the chance is much higher than that even. I have a level 2 ultrasound in 4 weeks and he will check again, but I think he is right on the money! I have been having boy dreams for about a month now! His name will be Nicholas but we don't have a middle name yet. I am SUPER excited to have another little boy:)

The dog finally gave birth this morning. She had an emergency c-section at 3am. There were 2 pups and only 1 survived. It was a VERY rough night!! We were afraid for a while that we were going to lose Mama AND the babies. She is tired & the pup is groggy from the general anesthesia, but they are doing okay otherwise.

I had another OB appointment today to go over my quad-screen results and determine if an amnio is necessary. For someone my age, the numbers were great, actually lower risk than average. The doc did a quick u/s just to check brain development and see if he saw any abnormalities that would prompt him to encourage me further to have the amnio but he said everything is PERFECT as far as he can see! NO AMNIO for me! YAY. He would not verify gender but he said when I have my level 2 on March 2nd he will double check for me then.

I just got a call from my OB's office. My appt today has been canceled. We got about 14 inches of snow yesterday (and it's not done yet) and my doctor is stuck in Iowa. I-35 between Albert Lea, MN and Ames IA is closed. Almost all of the State & County highways south of the Twin Cities are closed. They will call me on Monday to reschedule. I was SO looking forward to this appointment.

Had my level 2 U/S and the doctor said everything with my little boy looks perfect!! He pointed out all of the organs (including the one between his legs) and showed me all 4 chambers of the heart. We could see all 10 fingers & toes. It was really cool! His name will be Nicholas (we STILL don't have a middle name yet).

Today was my screening for gestational diabetes, which I knew I would fail and did fail. I have to go to a diabetes education class and they will put me on a special diet for the remainder of my pregnancy. Bummer part for me is that summer is coming and I LOVE my fresh fruit. I will have to lay off from that a bit until Nicholas is born. I was borderline gestational diabetic with both Christopher & Andrew and we controlled it with diet. This time because of my age I will have to test my blood very freequently and if we can't control it with what I eat then I get to give myself insulin injections. Oh the joy!

Today I had my Gestational diabetes education class which went fine. The hardest part is going to be eating everything they say I should and writing everything down. It shouldn't be too hard to actually follow the diet, though. I also had my OB appointment. He did a quick u/s to check position & heart rate. Everything looked great. Heart is 142 bpm and he's still laying crosswise, which at this early stage is fine. I'm 24 weeks 2 days and I measured 23 weeks yesterday which he said is fine..no cause for concern or reason to change due dates. I go back in 2 weeks for a full u/s and he will review my blood glucose to determine if I need insulin or not.

Another puppy picture. This is her Easter sweater. It is her first new sweater :) Isn't it just beautiful on her :)

I had an OB appt today and my Doctor determined that I do need to do insulin shots. I am very upset and still kind of in denial also. I just can't believe that the diet isn't controlling my glucose levels! I have to pick up my supplies this weekend and then meet with his nurse on Monday to show me how to administer the injections. To start, I will take insulin only before breakfast, but he said that because gestational diabetes is progressive that by the end of my pregnancy I will probably have to give myself shots before every meal. I am just in utter disbelief! On a positive note, Nicholas is doing well. His growth is just a bit ahead of schedule but nothing to be alarmed about at this time. Our goal is to keep him under 8 pounds and if he starts getting to big my doctor and I will discuss induction. Today he was estimated at 2lbs 3 oz and is already starting to take his practice breaths which my OB told me they don't usually do until about 32 weeks.

It has been a while since my last update to my page. Honestly there is not much to report. Nicholas is getting big! I am counting down the weeks at this point. I have an OB appointment this Thursday and I believe he will do another ultrasound to check on baby's size again. We are monitoring that closely. I also believe they will start doing non-stress tests at least once a week becasue of my gestational diabetes. I have the first of 3 baby showers next Saturday and I am really excited about that. I think there will be a lot of people there! We are expecting about 30 guests. There will be just about the same number of people at my shower for work and then I have one more where I am guessing about 20 people. I know I REALLY need to get going on getting his room ready because I have run out of rrom for baby stuff and I haven't even had a shower yet! I never got a shower for either of my first 2 so It is humbling to me to have so many people excited about the impending birth of my son! I will update again after my OB appointment on Thursday (if there is anything exciting to report). I hope all of you mommies & babies are doing well!!

I had my OB appointment today and another ultrasound. I just love seeing him and knowing that he's okay in there. I also love hearing my OB say.."He's healthy and just as perfect as can be!" His weight is approximately 3lbs 11oz - 4lbs. He is slowly changing position towards head down . My OB did slightly change my insulin dosage because my sugars are still high in the morning..not super high, but just enough above normal that he changed things just a little. I do, in fact, start going every week now for non stress tests. I will be having an appointment every Thursday from here on out! Nicholas measures exactly 30 weeks today so he's not getting too big because of the diabetes. I am so glad! Only 10 weeks remaining...the countdown is on :)

I had my OB appointment . The doctor is beginning to get concerned that the baby is not going to turn into the head down position. If he doesn't turn within the next 3-4 weeks we will begin discussing our options. I don't think I want to have him try to manually turn the baby. I think if he doesn't turn on his own, I will opt for a c-section.
I finally chose my nursery theme. I don't have the bedding yet, but I had it on my Babies R Us registry and someone has purchased it. I have a shower tomorrow, so I am hoping that I will be getting the gift tomorrow and I can put the final touches on the crib. I finally got the nursery all put together. I just have to decorate now!. I can't believe how close it is getting!

Today was my first of 3 baby showers. Dan's sisters hosted this one and it was absolutely wonderful! There were a lot of people and everyone was SO generous! I posted a picture of the gifts below. Also, here's a picture of Nicholas's crib with the new bedding in it. My nursery is nearly complete now!

Had an OB appointment today. Nicholas was so active that they could not get a good reading on the non-stress test so my Dr. had to do a biophysical by ultrasound. The baby looks GREAT! My OB said he is doing all of the things he should be doing at this point and he said based on how regular his breathing (of the amniotic fluid ) was, his lungs are probably strong enough to breath on their own if he were to be born early. My glucose levels are finally starting to regulate themselves with the help of my 2 insulin injections per day. Oh yeah, I almost forgot...he turned. He is now head down. He's getting ready for his big day! I figured he was up to something yesterday (turning head down). He felt like he was trying to claw his way out! 8 weeks left and counting!!
May 31, 2007
Gosh, my page is getting long. I had my 33-week check today. The NST went fine and I had another ultrasound. The minute the doctor stepped into the room, his first question was "So when do you want to have this baby?" He is essentially letting me choose my day at this point because of all of the complications I have had. He did another ultrasound to check size and Nicholas is now estimated at 4.5#, however there was another concern that came up which we will have to check again next week. Although the baby is head down, his head is not in my pelvis...there is something (possibly placenta) blocking him from becoming engaged in the pelvis. If it is placenta, then I will have a c-section. We are going to take another look next week to see if he can figure out if it is ligaments, muscles or if it really is part of the placenta. So it looks like I may only have 4 weeks left instead of 7. I chose July 1st as my delivery date, whether by c-section or enduction, because that is Nicholas's Daddy's birthday. I will update again next week after I know more from my Dr appointment.
June 9, 2007
Yes, another update. Not too many of these left. My appointment on Thursday went well. I don't have placenta previa, however Nicholas is back in the breech position. My OB stated that he has plenty of time & plenty of room to turn again so not to worry at this point. He thinks that with my gestational diabetes that maybe we should wait a little longer for delivery (if he doesn't come on his own). My doctor said that if I don't deliver before, he will deliver me at 39 weeks which is July 12th. Nothing much else to report this week. Hope you are all well!
June 12, 2007
My OB is going out of the country for 2 weeks so I had my appt early this week. Honestly I have nothing to update. No changes since last week. I suppose that is good news :) I will see his associate on the 21st of June. Then only 2 more appointments until I deliver. With my induction or c-section on the 12th of July, that means that I have only 30 days left. I just can't believe that he's almost here!
June 21, 2007
He's back head down! I am dilated to 2cm, but my cervix is still long & firm which means I have a LONG way to go still. He looked great on the NST! His heart rate was perfectly reactive with movement! Looking forward to my visit next week when I can say that I only have 2 weeks (14 days) left until my scheduled induction!
July 6, 2007
So I had my last weekly appointment today. Nicholas looks great. I am still 2cm dilated, but the change is that I am now 50% effaced. I wasn't dilated quite enough for my OB to sweep the membrane, but that's okay because honestly, it probably wouldn't have done too much. We confirmed the induction schedule. I am going for gel at 3pm on Tuesday the 10th and if it doesn't put me into labor then I go back to the hospital at 7am on the 11th for pitocin! SO..I get my baby one day sooner than we had originally planned :) Only 5 days left maximum. I will still work on Monday and Tuesday and I will go straight from work to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. The nerves are wearing off and excitement is setting in.
July 10, 2007
I go in for the gel on my cervix this afternoon and get induced tomorrow. I can't believe this is FINALLY here!
July 11, 2007
I can't believe it!! The day came, and it went......The induction didn't work and I was sent home after being on IV Pitocin and contracting all day. There was little change in my cervix and when they did take me off the Pitocin my contractions stopped pretty quickly. I have instructions from my doctor to relax tomorrow and go see him in his office on Friday. I just want to cry!!! I THOUGHT I was having a baby today!
July 19, 2007
Here I am at my due date and STILL pregnant. I see my doctor again tomorrow and we are going to try induction again next week. I get gel twice on the 25th and Pitocin on the 26th. If it doesn't work on the 26th then I am going to have him do a c-section. My first son was 8 days past his due date & the placenta had started to break down. His umbilical cord was barely attached. I am not taking that chance with this baby! I will keep you all up to date and hopefully I will be posting pictures of my little Nicholas Daniel next week :) (update after my appontment...He is going to try to sweep the membranes on Monday if I have dilated past 1.5 which I have been at for over a week now)
July 24, 2007
I am now 40 weeks and 5 days. So much for getting this pregnancy over with a little early as my OB had suggested over a month ago! I had my membranes swept yesterday and from what I can tell it really didn't do anything. I have another appt to have it done again today. I am now hoping that, at the latest, I will have this baby on thursday when they put me on Pitocin again.
