| 28-7-2008 - Well-meaning Advice... | My mood while writing this blog:Questionable |
I realize that this is my first baby, but I've been around several babies over the course of my 33 years. I work in an office full of men, all of them fathers, and if I hear how "life will NEVER be the same again" one more time I will happily gag them all!! This isn't a commitment I'm taking lightly, and I realize there will be several changes, but I have wanted this for at least the last 5 years. The most opinionated of all of them is a father of 3 (and my boss). He has started trying to advise me on whether my plan of having the baby in my room for the first few months is a good idea, how I should handle my pets, and has been the main one emphasizing to me that I will never have freedom again once the baby comes. What he needs to realize is, I've had my freedom for years now and am ready to have a child. He and his wife were "surprised" by their first at 19 and 20 years old. They didn't have the time I've had to do the things I've wanted to do and establish myself. When I first told him that I was pregnant, his reaction was "you have NO IDEA what you're getting into". I was slightly offended by that! All of my friends had children early, most before graduating high school. I do realize how limiting children can be in some ways, but I also know what a joy they are in others. I also realize that those children that my friends had in high school are now old enough to babysit for me!! Hehehehe There are advantages to waiting awhile!
My other issue is with other women that had problems during their pregnancies and assume I will, too. I have one friend that just had her baby back in December, and she was sick for pretty much her whole pregnancy. She keeps telling me that it will come and I will be miserable, gee thanks! I need that upbeat outlook! Another friend has told me that she has never heard of someone NOT being sick (vomitting) during pregnancy, and that she's sure I'll deal with it soon. I'm at 10 weeks tomorrow, and have had slight MS but nothing difficult to handle. I've been sick once, and that was after sipping coffee (my couple of tablespoons a day) on an empty stomach. Other than that one time, when I start feeling nauseous I eat something light and usually feel better pretty quickly. Why do some people have to be pessimistic with their advise and support? Anyway, I guess I'm done now and thanks for reading. Must be Monday for me to be grouchy, huh? Or maybe the hormones?? :)
