| 03-11-2009 - 6 Weeks - $21 a can forumla is now on tap for Karley | My mood while writing this blog:Happy |
So much as happened over the last six weeks and I am now back at work (as of Monday). Karley Rose is with her grandparents (my folks) and doing well. New pics were posted today of Karley and her big sister Kari (enjoy).
Breastfeeding was a challenge for me from the start. After becoming jaundice in the hospital, the peditrican recommended formula supplements to help. We did so and she still breastfed eagerly without a problem. Latching issues continued and resulted in cracked and irrated nipples which further resulted in an infection within the third week, I developed a breast infection. Antibiotics were given and Karley responded with runny stools - and I was told to move her to more forumla which I did. Even with pumping my breasts weren't healing, so I had to lay off of pumping and feeding lessening my supply. Eventually, I decided to just move her exclusively to forumla, as she was thriving.
Even with the switch off the breast milk, she developed diarreah that lasted a few days. The doctor had me come in to weigh her and we switched her to Similac Lipil - Soy based formula. We continued on that until the end of last week when she once again had a similar episode and the doctor then moved her to the gold standard....Enfamil Nutrimigen which retails for $21 a can. Ugh! I know she is worth it and her well-being truly will make up for the cost, but OMG no going out to dinner for us anymore. LOL
Hope all of you are doing well and avoid this feeding/pooping drama.
