09-12-2009 - 13w5d Update - Doctor's Appointment

Hello ladies! Hope you are all doing well. My doctor's appointment went well.

My doctor filled out my referral form for the hospital I want to deliever at and faxed it to them. She gave me my referral for my anatomy scan, which I have booked for January 15th, at which point I will be exactly 19 weeks. The place I'm going to does most of the scan in 2D, but does some of it in 3D as well, they give you a complimentary CD of everything, so if baby is moving when they're doing 3D you get 4D on the disc. It will cost $185 initially, and Medicare give us $85 back, so it will only cost us $100, so that's good. Now I just have to get through the next 5w2d without getting too impatient lol. Oh how I can't wait to see baby again, I wanna know so badly if I have a little girl or boy in there, fingers are crossed for a girl. Plus when I get further along (somewhere between 28 and 32 weeks) I'm planning to get a proper 3D/4D u/s done at this other place I found on the Internet that isn't too far from me, and there deals are pretty good, but because it's a voluntary u/s Medicare doesn't cover it so I have to pay the whole $230, but it's not something I will be doing every day so it'll be worth it and I don't mind.

I heard bub's h/b again today with my doppler and recorded it onto my laptop, but it's really quiet (you have to wear headphones and have no other sound around you), but really clear. Mum listened to it and her face lit up when she heard it, it was awesome.

I am going to attempt to get my bloodwork done again on Friday, let's hope it's 3rd time lucky. We're going to try a different approach this time; I'm going to put numbing cream on my arm and lay down this time. I think I'm just going to have to toughen up and push through my fear to get this done. I don't want anyone saying anything negative about the fact I still haven't gotten it done; if you saw how I react you'd understand that it's no petty fear I have, it's really extreme and the fact I have this fear doesn't help me talk myself into doing it.

I have a fear of blood work too!! I'm not scared of needles just the whle idea that someone is taking blood from my body makes me sick. I feel your pain and I hope everything works out. Have they tried a finger prick? That may be an option.

i have a huge fear of needles but when i was pregnant they poked me soo manyy time i just held my belly and would be like its all for u.. and it was ok until she was born lol!

GL with getting your blood! I use to have a fear of needles but when I got pregnant with Vincent my mum told me to stop being silly-after all, I have to push a baby out and thats worse. That thought scared me so fing much that I no longer have a fear. I still look away and say Ive hads babies,this is nothing. Ive had babies, this is nothing. Do you think this will help.?LOL.

Goodluck with getting your blood! It must be hard having such a strong fear and I know its even worse now that your pregnant because they seem to take it all the time! I've had mine taken twice in the past 12 weeks ugh! BE STRONG! xoxox

Your so lucky to be getting your ultrasound at 19 weeks! My doc reffered me for 19 weeks but when I rang the ultrasound clinic, they said that they wouldn't do it until 20 weeks :( Good luck getting your blood tests - can you bring someone with you and cuddle into them while the blood gets taken? I wish you all the best :)

oh i don't judge that you didn't get bloods done yet. hell with my son i didn't go to the doc until 12wks because i had to wait for my insurance to kick in. so i didn't get my bloods done until then. but you have to remember-this is for your baby. i hate needles too, and when i found out while i was in the hospital on bedrest that i had to have my blood taken every 4hrs-i freaked, but i closed my eyes real tight and said-'anything for my baby!'

aww I am glad all is well -- and I understand about your fear I just have a different one -- some people have anxiety over things and unless you have anxiety you wont understand it. I will be crossing my fingers for you!

Glad to hear all is well. I agree with you, I think you are just going to have to buck up and get that blood work done! Once you have it overwith you can stop torturing yourself about it :)
