24-10-2008 - Do most first timers go over 41 weeks? Anxious/excitedMy mood while writing this blog:
Anxious/excited

I have been having pre-labor symptoms for about 4 weeks now. At 35 weeks I had a show, two weeks later I started to contract regularly, and they increased in intensity over the next two days but then disappeared when they reached 5 mins apart. So no need to go to the hospital or anything. I was really sure that I would have our bundle by now.... but the more I read the more I realise that your body needs a lot more preparation when having your first baby. Everyone is having their little ones at 39 weeks so it seems, and I am interested to hear about the experiences that mommies have had with their first bub.......I hear that most first timers go over 41 weeks... is this so for you? Were you induced? My family has been on standby for about a month..... You will go this week for sure because your belly cant get any lower and you look like you are carrying a watermelon between your legs....... Yeah right, still here, I guess you go when you go.

With my first, I was induced (unsuccessfully) at 41 weeks due to low fluid. After being in labour for 9+ hours and only getting to 5cm, babys heartrate dropped dangerously low, so I ended up with an emergency c-section. Before all that happened I hadn't had any labour signs whatsoever... not sure if I would have EVER gone into labour naturally! It sounds like your body already knows what it needs to do... just a waiting game I guess. Good Luck!!

I had pre eclampsia with no 1 so was induced at 39 w + 2 days. As uncomfortable as you might be, just hang in there and enjoy these last moments with being pregnant. Baby needs all the time in there and also the pain is something you can wait for. Do something memorable together. Oh and have sex a lot - it may not help bring on the labour but you dont know when the next time after the baby is born that you will have it again and it is important for the guys believe me. They get frustrated. Nothing I did brought bubby on any faster - as you say they come when they come!
