18-4-2008 - The first month

My mood while writing this blog:
Ok

Avery's temperment is fairly easy going. He is very quick to tell us what he needs and once we have tended to him he is relaxed again. Some days he has his nappy changed 14 times! He settled very quickly into sleeping for 4 to 5 hours during the night, and I worked out that if I managed to feed him as late as possible, it meant only getting up once in the night to change and feed him.

He is very strong and loves pushing with his legs. He loves looking around. He loves being wrapped up, but at times will fight his way out to get his hands back up at his face. When he has had plenty to eat, he looks drunk and raises his hands above his head.

His favourite sleeping position is with his hands raised above his head or with his fists near his chin. He sometimes makes little hiccup noises in his sleep when he is dreaming and has lots or REM.

Towards the end of the third week he became more alert with tracking us with his eyes and turning his head when he heard me speak from the other side of the room. Avery would imitate his dad when he stuck his tongue out at him.

He loves his change table and will calm as soon as he is taken to it. He stares at the light and the sky and loves the leaves on the trees. He is most happy in the lighter rooms of the house. It is in these rooms that he tries to speak, makes little noises and makes attempts to smile. He loves being sung to, loves musical toys and lights and the movement of his mobile.
