| 11-12-2009 - Miscarriage update | My mood while writing this blog:angry |
TMI alert.....
Well you know about my miscarriage on nov 2nd. Since then I physically wasn't getting over it and for a month was getting worsening stomach, bowel and rectal pain. As well as spotting and bleeding on and off for 7 weeks. I had 2 ultrasounds the first showed 6.5 week with no heart beat. That night I passed some tissue in the shower. So thought that was it. My doctor said it should all be over in a couple of weeks.
Anyway long story short, a weeks after the miscarriage I had what i thought was constipation. So I increased my fibre intake. I went back to the doctors and reported that I was still spotting, so they gave me another ultrasound and this time they said the uterous was empty, ovaries normal. tubes fine. I only started having beta hcgs done 3 weeks post miscarriage and they weren't dropping. And the pains in the bowel got worse and by 4 weeks post miscarriage the pains became labor like. I went back to the doctor and insisted further tests and referal to the OB and my doctor sent me straight up to our local hospital, and low an behold I still after another ultrasound I had an ectopic pregnancy in my right tube from the last miscarriage. So probably twins in the different locations. Today I had my left ovary salvaged from a 7.5 cm cyst and my right tube removed from the ectopic damage.
I am so mad. It is just about the worst case for what was supposed to be a pretty simple natural miscarriage at 7 weeks. I had tests at 2 different hospitals and both said that the uterous was now empty and tubes ovaries were all fine.
I just don't understand why / how they missed it? And now they are all covering their arses. Some excuses about sometimes ectopics grumble along unseen. I obviously got the ultrasound techs who were about to go for a lunch break! Bleeding and pain for 7 weeks and they only found it yesterday.
I can't believe that it went on for as long as it did because of incompetent medical professionals.
The OB said my other tube was okay so fertility shouldn't be reduced too much. But to wait until at least 2 menstrual cycles are complete to ttc. He also said to come and see him if I haven't conceived after another 8 months. And that is the hard thing.
They removed l.5 litres of blood from my abdominal cavity from the ectopic. Which was causing all the pain and loss of bowel function.
I guess I am lucky I didn't bleed to death as I had been bleeding internally for 7 weeks!
I grilled the OB about why I was left so long with out appropriate tests and why they missed all this in 3 ultrasounds and he basically said "let's put it this way, I send all of my girls to Melbourne for their ultrasounds!" what does that say about my cities health system?
