28-4-2008 - 2 week update

My mood while writing this blog: happy

here is the update from april 24 to jacobi's 2weeks...4/28~~~~~~

april 24th~~~~

what a great morning we have had!!! Adam dropped me off at the nicu on his way to work...and i got to change his diaper and then we got ready for kangaroo care, his oxygen sat was around 85% when we started...they started his feed (he is up to 25ccs now) and i started to rock and sing "his song" to him and his sat rate immediatly rose to 99% and stayed there it was great...then the nicu doc came by and after watching his neighbor almost drown in the stupid machine that is sopposed to make the oxygen humid...because it builds up so much condensation then the water runs straight down their nose...well this didnt make the doc to happy so she had him put on what was called a "bubbler" and he did so good on that...they dropped him down to 21% oxygen (which is room air) and now they are starting to decreased the pressure of the air pushed in him...and he did so great on the room air!!!

and if his 24 hour spinal culture comes out neg then she says the IV line and the nasal cannula should come out tomorrow or the next day!!! we are so excited...


he is up to 4lbs 12oz so we should be in clothes soon!!! yay...what a great day!!!

april 25th~~~~

ok jacobi weighs 4lbs 14.7oz...just a gaining away!!!

and is down on the pressure being pushed through nasal cannula...his oxygen is up to 25% but they raised it so they can even out with the pressure dropped!!!

his feeds are also up to 35ccs...

he is doing so good!!!

april 26th~~~~

ok last night jacobi weighed 4lbs 14.6oz...so he lost .1oz which isnt bad seeing as he has been gaining so consistantly!!! but tonight while grandma shirley and i were there, he weighed in at 4lbs 15.3oz!!!! we are so close to 5 lbs!!! i think we might have a little party when he hits 5lbs...

and THE REALLY REALLY REALLY BIG NEWS!!!!
JACOBI IS BREATHING ROOM AIR AND NO NASAL CANNULA!!!! YAY WE ARE SO EXCITED...ONE OF THE BIG HURDLES HAVE NOW BEEN OVERCOME!! ONE STEP CLOSER TO COMING HOME!!!
he is also done with his antibiotics so tomorrow morning they are going to take out the iv on his head!!!
and his billiruben levels are staying low so looks like jaundice might be gone.....fingers x'ed!!!
his feeds are up to 40ccs!!!!
he is so cute and lovable and just absolutly perfect...his suck reflex is so good...and next thurs we are going to try breastfeeding!!!
so excited i cannot wait!!!

april 26th~~~~

UPDATE!!!!
~~~weight 4lbs 14oz =( thought we would hit 5lbs today but still doing great
~~~billi level down to 8.4 yay
~~~only 1 spell of apnea at 9am and before that at 6am on 4/27
~~~they are fortifying his breastmilk to 22cal per feed!!!
~~~dad went up to see him this morning i cant wait to see him tonight
