| 01-8-2009 - Stormont Hospital Tour | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
Before we wen't to my doctors appointment yesterday we took a tour of the nearby hospital. The first thing that amazed me is it only took us 6 mins to get there by car and going the speed limit :P Upon arriving we filled out the necessary documents so we are not going to need to do it later when I come in during labor. The nurses station has monitor's all around it keeping track of every patient it has in its maternity ward. The nurses are always there but like to give the parents private time and personal space so they monitor everyone from the desk. The delivery rooms are amazing! The walla are not all bleach white, they have a microwave, mini fridge, stereo system and a tv in there. They also have a padded bench to sit on and are willing to bring in a roll away bed if your hubby wants to spend the night. They have a pretty nice size shower with a built in seat so you can help with labor pains or w/e. Visiting hours end at 9pm which I find to be a fair time.
Next we walked down a huge hallway to another section where we were told about the people at the breast feeding room who are there to help you if you need it and will make sure if you want to breast feed that you are doing it right etc. Accross from that is a follow up room where you recieve calls the day after you go home just to check up on mommy and baby. From there is another nurse's desk and a HUGE nursery. We got to look in and see a new born baby boy and girl. This hospital unlike some does do circumcisions in a special room in the nursery. You have the option to be there but from what I was told it is a bit of a tramatic experience to see and most don't want to see it. The recovery rooms are completely private in the ward. The rooms are a bit similar to the delivery rooms but have a larger shower and bed. Your baby will never be taken out of your room unless it needs to go down a floor for special attn. You do have the option to have your baby in the nursery as much as you want so you can get rest etc. The ice chip machine I LOVED, strange right! Instead of square cubes they use little balls of ice that are kind of like a balled up slushie drink (about pea sized). Oh and before I forget the dreaded hospital food...Not here they have a menu that looks like you are sitting down at a restaraunt. The menu is huge and consists of soo many options I wouldnt be able to try it all in one stay. They had a section for sandwiched, grilled items, fruits, veggies, cereal, breads, the list goes on. From what people say the food is really good too <3
The last part is, if I wen't into labor my hubby would drive me into the main entrence. He would run inside the doors and call the nurses while grabbing a wheel chair. Once the nurses have me he can drive and park the car in the parking garage and meet me upstairs on the 4th floor. Well thats all folks :D
