17-9-2009 - No vaccine for us

After doing tun's of research we've decided not to get the H1N1 vaccine. When my 17mth old got sick over the weekend I called his Ped. emergency nurse and she said the media is making H1N1 a bigger deal than it is. The seasonal flu has killed more people a year than the H1N1. The reason why it's a level 6 is because it spreads fast not the severity of it. Babies and little children are not allowed in the hospitals now and they have to go to their Ped. Doctors to be seen for flu like symptoms. They won't except any patients in the ER unless they are dehydrated or have trouble breathing. Doctors won't even test for swine flu unless your baby has been in the hospital or has fever for more than 24 hrs and the fever has to be over 103. Thank Jah my baby didn't have the flu. Only had a fever of 101.1 at the highest and went down to 100.5 then 100.3 ( it lasted for 5 hrs). He had coughing and a stuffy nose, he even got hives. He had a bad cold. My husband and I caught it and are now recovering. I am still going to be really careful. Washing hands and staying out of most public places, kiddie parks, and child daycare. I don't want me or my son to catch the seasonal flu either. My husband and I have never gotten a flu vaccine in our lives. I have gotten the flu a few times because I was a bar tender working in night clubs. The vaccine would most likely make us really sick. My friends 2 yr old never had the flu shot before and because she got pressured to have them both done cause she was preggers, the kid ended up in the hospital w/ breathing problems. She got the sickest she's ever been in her life. My other friends little one got the swine flu this year and is recovering just fine. They are making all people working health care get the H1N1 vaccine cause their would be a lot of people out of work. It's spreads fast. It's all about the money. The media wants to scare us so we will keep watching the news. It's all about the ratings. I've done a lot of research and most of my friends and family are not getting it done. This is only my opinion and I'm not trying to make anyone not get the shot. Just wanted to let you all know what I decided. For a while there I was letting the media scare the crap out of me . Stay healthy my friends.

I think the main reason they want pregnant women to get the flu vaccine is because during pregnancy your immune system doesn't work as well so you'd have a much worse case of flu and take longer to recover. With my last pregnancy I got a nasty cold and the flu and was sick for 11 weeks. It was rough.

I am not getting it either. I have never had a flu shot in my life. I totally agree with everything you said!
