Write a new blog
| 18-12-2009 - What I want YOU to know.. |
My mood while writing this blog: Ok |
This entry was orginally posted on my own site. (www.mcbender4.com)
I will also post it here:
Why am I writing this?
Well yesterday the kids and I
Went to an arts and crafts activity
at another parents house.
This was for homeschooled kids.
Well at first I didn't want to go.
I was quite scared on how Kyle would act.
Prior to going,
I gave the parent a call.
I expressed that my son has autism
and just made sure that they knew.
"Oh my daughter is three and she doesn't talk."
-parent's response
I must say that the parent was beyond nice,
She seemed interested in knowing more about my son.
Which was nice.
Not many people want to know the real facts.
They rather just push that aside.
Well.. her response to my son having autism..
I was quite upset.
Many people think that AUTISM
means non communication, no feelings, and an overall out of control child.
My son was 'THAT' before the diet and supplements.
Many people think a child with autism has NO future..
Well we are paying out the ass for my son's future..
It's what he deserves.
NO CHILD should be "left behind."
It's quite a shame that insurance doesn't cover this
Or that the state won't give parent's money to support their child's diet/supplements.
So instead, us as parents,
Are supposed to be in debt
To get their child back into the world.
So that their child has a chance in life.
I must say that there are NO HARD FEELINGS,
against this other parent that we met
(because I know she will read this eventually)
I just want to say that many parents are like you.
They really don't understand.
and when they find out the cost of how much we spend monthly on
food, supplements and doctor visits,
They react by saying,
"How do you live,
How do you survive."
Well we just do.
This is what is helping our child!
It's like if your child was dying of cancer
and the "cure" was 1 million dollars...
Wouldn't you do anything in your power to pay
that amount,Even if it meant being in debt,
the rest of your life?
That is what we are doing as parent's of an autistic child.
That's the reality!
Another suggestion made by the parent,
was a mall 'play date.'
The homeschooling community has play dates at the mall,
For young and older kids.
The mall has a mini playground for children.
The suggestion was nice...
However, I honestly DO NOT think my son would behave.
Maybe he would play
Or maybe he would just run and scream.
I don't know until I try.
I would hate to drive 40 mins.
for screaming.
What do I want other parents to know?
*NO two kids with autism are the same.
(Some are high functioning,
and some like my son,
are low functioning.)
*Autism does NOT mean no hugs or kisses.
(Before the diet,
My son didn't look at me,
didn't hug or kiss.
Well now he does!)
*As parents of an autistic child,
We would love breaks!
But that's not reality.
Being a parent is 24/7.
You can't expect breaks.
(The reason why I say this
Is because the other parent asked
if I had breaks.
To answer that question.. "sometimes."
I don't talk to my side of the family.
My husband side of the family
helps when they can.
Everyone works,
that's the reality.
So I don't expect breaks.
I just appreciate them when I do.)
*I do not vaccinate
(My children are no less healthier than yours.)
Please don't try to lecture me.
I've done my research,
And well aware that:
They are "mandatory" for schools..
(NOT really.. ever heard of "vaccine exemption forms?")
They are Life saving...
(Not really)--Do your own research!--
*I plan to homeschool my kids.
Say what you want...
Say that they will be deprived kids
deprived of social activities..
I want to quote what a parent said yesterday ..
"It's your job as a homeschooling parent
to make sure the kids have the socialization."
AMEN SISTER!
Now, quit all the rude comments.

Friday, 18 Dec I love your blog. Though I cant relate to the autism I can completely relate to the home schooling and non vaccinating issues. People in general, in my experience, think we live in a bubble or were amish or something. Its bizarre and usually theres too much for me to explain so I let it go. Good blog, girl. baby-beiler -
Friday, 18 Dec Hey carol you know what? you are doing the best job that you know how to do and you know the rewards that are coming from it. you see how giving kyle proper nutrition helps and you know how your attention to him has helped. So at the end of the day when he does say your name and hug u u focus on your little man and how far he has come because of you and you forget about all the petty bull crap that people spread around. Keep educating us all on autism so that our eyes will be open and we all can look at autism with a bit of compassion and not ignorance katrina n -
Friday, 18 Dec so glad that you are speaking about this, no one that reads this can say that they weren't warned. It the parents job to be educated on these matters. The state won't pay for the diet because the goverment is the one causing this, they know darn good and well whats in those vaccines. brendalee -

The first time my husband was EVER vaccinated was in the Army and he is perfectly fine. I was vaccinated, one of the vaccines had entirely cleared my system within 5 months of getting the series. I've had the pertussis vaccine yet I've had pertussis. The chicken pox vaccine almost killed me in boot camp.I don't trust vaccines, I think society relys on them WAY too much to "ensure" their child's health.I agree with hilary9th....awesome blog :)
