My mood while writing this blog: anxious |
It has been a long three weeks for our little family. Zemirah has been having issues with eating, sleeping, digestive distress, and she seemed to have colic, but we learned this past week that colic is probably not the problem. We found out at her pediatrician on Tuesday that she has an inguinal hernia, and needs to have surgery asap. We met with her surgeon on Thursday, and she now has surgery scheduled for this coming Wednesday morning at 6:30 AM. Her screaming and fussiness may or may not be related to pain from the hernia, so we're anxious to see what, if anything, changes after the surgery.
It is the most commonly performed infant surgery, and I've heard positive things from many people that either had the surgery themselves as children, or know an infant that came through the surgery successfully. However, it being MY three week old baby that is having this surgery is incredibly stressful. I feel so bad for her. She's so teeny and sweet and it's so hard to see her in pain. I've never even had surgery myself.
She also has hip dysplasia on one side, which will hopefully be remedied soon by having her wear two diapers at all times. Her pediatrician will assess her hip again at four weeks old to see if it's gotten any better. She is still below her birthweight as well. She hasn't even made it back to 7 lb. yet. Her newborn clothing is big on her. She has been eating better the last two days, rather than just screaming through meals as she had been doing. We won't really know until sometime after her surgery if the hernia is the main or only thing causing her distress, or if she has other eating/digestive problems. This will be another very long week.
My pregnancy was so smooth and lovely, and so far having her out of the womb has been anything but. My poor little girl. I know that she won't remember any of this herself, and in the long run it's much more stressful for me than it is for her. I just want her to be happy and healthy and eat and sleep and enjoy her little self.

Monday, 10 Nov I'm so sorry. I can only imagine how stressful this is for you. Its great that its not a terrible life threatening illness or something, but I cant imagine the sadness and worry of having my little baby undergo surgery for any sort of reason! My heart goes out to you. Hopefully her discomfort has been causing her to be fussy and will be resolved after the surgery. You're in my thoughts... XOXO My5Babies:) -
