12-3-2009 - Glucose Tolerance Test

My mood while writing this blog:
Grossed out

I went to the lab at 8:15am and had to choke down this nasty, disgusting, orange drink within 5 minutes and then sit in the lab waiting room for an hour (you can't leave!) and then have my blood pulled.
I fasted and then after I drank that crap I was so nauseated. It was bad. I am just giving you all fair warning.
Its for a good cause, its for the baby. =) They can give me as much nasty stuff to drink and take as much blood as they want.
p.s. I had to have this test early (@10 weeks) because my mom has diabetes.

wow you had to have that early in your pregnancy. i havent had mine done yet and im almost 22 weeks. im not looking forward to it. i am nauseated every morning with this little girl, and i am until i eat breakfast. so yeah, it should be a fun time! lol

being my 4th pregnancy i have had that stuff twice before. i had such a bad reaction i was positive i was going to be diagnosed with gestational diabetes. i wasn't both times. with my 3rd child i discovered i have food intollerences and was reacting to the colours, preservatives and other crap they put in those drinks!!! so when i was due to have it with my 3rd pregnancy i did a lot of research and found out you can get your clinic to get in plain powder that they mix on the spot with water that doesn't have all the crap in it. it tastes just like sweet water, not like the straight cordial the other one tastes like. i had absolutely no reaction to the powder and it was a far better experience. i have already started looking into getting the powder again for this pregnancy. the powder is called Lactose 50 gr. it costs nothing to get it in, just some organising with your local blood clinic. i think all mothers expecting should get this version. it took them seconds to mix it on the spot and like you said anything for the safe of your baby. why give us crap when there is a much better option out there!
