My mood while writing this blog: concerned |
About 2 weeks ago I had a chromosomal blood test perfomed (20 week appt) to see if I had any abnormalities which may affect my chances to carry a fetus in the future. They ran this test on me because both my sisters have a history of miscarriage. This is my first (so far healthy) pregnancy. So, my OB just called, sounding awfully concerned, and said I have an "aversion to chromosome 9." She said "its a common aversion" and the perinatologist said it was "not a big deal" and is of no concern to ME (just me, she didn't say baby). Despite this "no big deal" I have to see a genetic counselor asap. OK, anyone else hear of this or have this test done? I am kinda freaking out right now, I lost my appetite and feel sick to my stomach. I am worried that I may lose future babies because of this.....!
The internet is of no use - I searched.UPDATE:
So its actually chromosome inversion and I found some info on the internet - its pretty common and causes no problems supposedly.
I called the genetic counselor and she said she didn't need to see me about it. I left a message asking for more info and she never called back. Whatever. I am not worried anymore.
Just some info for all of you in case this happens to you.
Thanks for all your concern.

Wednesday, 24 Jun The most common inversion seen in humans is on chromosome 9, at inv(9)(p11q12). This inversion is generally considered to have no deleterious or harmful effects, but there is some evidence it leads to an increased risk for miscarriage for about 30% of affected couples. (hmmm...I must have it to then if you have it?) RainbowRach -
Thursday, 11 Jun sorry to hear this, I hate when the medical profession tell you something like this, then leave you worrying. If I were you, I would book another appointment, write down all your questions and concerns and get some answers, it might not be anything to worry about x x Thinking of you x mungbean -
Wednesday, 10 Jun i typed chromosome 9 and pregnancy and got some stuff. here is a link to some of it that basicly states it's common and most often results in very healthy children.

like hollyjean said the internet is full of overwhelming stuff and you shouldn't stress over what you read. everybody is different and you are over half way with a very healthy pregnacy. avery is all that matters at the moment, so focus on her and only her, the rest of your life can come later. let us know what the genetic counsellor says. thinking of you... hollyjean -

Wednesday, 10 Jun Oh no! When is your appnt with the genetics counselor? I hope they got you in quick. I'm sure everything will be fine, but still worrisome when you don't have all the information. I'll be keeping you and Avery in my thoughts and prayers. mandeb -

Wednesday, 10 Jun PLEASE go read my blogs. There's one about my anatomy scan. Another lady on here commented it and helped me a lot. Granted it was a different type of abnormality, she was in the same situation and her son is now 18 months I believe and her son is perfectly healthy. Do ALOT of research! I was told by my nurse practitioner that many of these tests come back as "false negatives". Your little one will be just fine! Tia.M -
