31-7-2008 - 1 Month New!

Hello all!! I realize I haven't been on here very much but am thinking of all of you and hoping that life with your newborns is going well.....or at the very least we're all surviving!! Cole is one month old tomorrow!! Wow where does the time go??? It has been a bit of a trial getting here but the past couple days we've actually been doing well!! (thank God for that!!) He is a Colicky Baby. Which means that he gets lots of ai bubbles in his belly that get stuck in there and cause him alot of pain. The result?? He cries day and night.....Or at least he did until the intervention of Nanny (My mother coming to the rescue on Saturday) She came over and gave us a new feeding schedule and taught me more about when he's just throwing a temper tantrum and when he's actually in pain...so he stops crying for nothing. Whereas up until this time when he cried and made sucking noises I was just feeding him and feeding him and feeding him some more. Which actually was causing the Colic to become worse!!! EEEK! Now I feed him every 4 hours for 15 minutes and then 10 minutes and use Ovol with every feeding. He has been doing much better!! (there were times when I was feeding him every our or for an hour and a half at a sitting - following the demand feeding schedule - I don't recommend this at ALL!!) So finally this week i'm actually getting to enjoy my little man instead of being exhausted and worn out and stressed beyond belief!!

Cole is currently taking his afternoon nap. (which is why i'm getting a chance to be on here) This is his second afternoon sleeping in his own crib in his nursery and it is going better then can be expected!! Up until now he has been spending most of his time in his bassinet sleeping wherever I am (it's a rolling bassinet) and sleeping next to my bed. However i'm trying to get him used to his own room so he can make the big move to sleeping at night in his own crib. It is going well!! I almost think he prefers sleeping in there with his radio on. He slept there yesterday from 1pm till 4pm and he's been there again today since 1pm. (it's now 2:30) I do have to say though that it's weird to be away from him......I've gotten used to him being next to me for the past month that now it seems empty to have him in his room.....What did I do with my time before I had a baby to take care of????!!!

Tonight we have a trip to the Toys R Us to buy some toys for his 1 month birthday. All the things I have so far are a little too advanced for him so I want to get some rattles and small light up toys that he will enjoy at this stage now that he's staying awake for a couple of hours at a time and wants to interact more with me. Any suggestions would be welcome!!!

Alright well i'm off to take advantage of nap time and have a shower and get myself all dressed and ready for our evening. Hope everyone is doing well and have healthy happy babies!!
