My mood while writing this blog: worried, scared and prayin |
So, I was originally so against getting the H1N1 vaccine. Not anymore! My doctor has advised me to get it from the start of all this and said he would not be able to sleep well if I didnt do it. I still had my doubts. I did get the regular flu shot in the office. I have never had a flu shot and never get it for my kids either. That will change now. I am gettin my son the shot tomorrow morning. Anyways, we have 2 women in ICU right now both 23 and 20 somthin weeks pregnant. The girl that is 23 weeks is doing horrible. They are waiting for her to code to take her baby. She is not gonna make it. The other is not doing well but I dont know any more with her. The last thing I knew about the 23 week woman was she had a tube down her throat and she was so sedated she couldnt really respond now this. My heart is just broken for these families. My best friend is an L&D nurse and she says just about every night they have women come in with flu like symptoms. So The option is their to protect me and my baby and I am gonna do it and say I did what I could. I know this is a very strong subject with very strong opinions but I am doing it and no one will talk me out of it. Anyways my prayers just go out to these people that their lives are taken away much to soon.

Wednesday, 28 Oct Hey! I just wanted to let you know that I have been debating getting the H1N1 shot this whole pregnancy. But after reading yout blog you have truley helped me make my decision. I think its a safer risk to get the shot then to risk dieing. anxiousannie -
Wednesday, 28 Oct I think you're doing the right thing - you have small kids, and I personally think it's always best to follow dr.'s orders - there's a reason they go to school for so long! I am trying to find one like a crazy person here! In Maryland it's about as easy as finding a golden ticket in "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"!!! baby[bump]mama -
Monday, 26 Oct go mama! pregnant woman more much likely to catch the H1N1 because of their immune system is at a lower tollerence. personally if i were still prego i would get it too. riley has his flu shots and get the swine flu next month! good luck! JUDE 4 -
Monday, 26 Oct The very next blog i read had info about swine flu straight from her doctor so i have copied it and added it here for you. *Highest rate of deaths is in under 15 years of age and pregnant women. *Did not go away over the summer. First influenza to do that.*H1N1 or any flu vaccine does NOT give you the flu.*Flu can be very serious, which most people do not believe. They minimize the severity of influenza. Regular influenza symptoms:~fever ~headache ~fatigue ~dry cough ~muscle aches and painsH1N1 is all of the above and may also have these additional symptoms:~nausea~vomiting~diarrhea*Most deaths are occurring in those with a chronic conditions.*No way to predict who is going to get a severe case of influenza and who is not.*Kids are dying and pregnant women are dying.*H1N1 affects kids a lot more than the regular influenza. *Docs are highly recommending getting kids vaccinated.*It is much safer to vaccinate your child that risk them getting the flu.*There are no recommending supplements to take to prevent H1N1*Any child 6 months to 24 months of age should get the vaccine.*Elderly seem to have a natural immunity to H1N1. Possibly came into contact to a similar strain decades ago. Whereas they are usually the age category at highest risk for regular influenza.*Side affects of the flu vaccine:~soreness at sight and redness and tenderness.~tired*Pregnant Women and H1N1~Research has been done on pregnant women and the H1N1 vaccine~It's much more risky to risk H1N1 than take the vaccine. Pregnant women get much sicker and are at a higher risk for pneumonia and death.~6% of deaths from H1N1 have been in pregnant women when they only make up 1% of the population.~Pregnant women's immune systems are working double time, higher blood volume.Warning signs of H1N1:~A huge warning sign is if your child is getting better and then starts to get worse... see a doc/ER asap. Could be pneumonia on top of the flu.~Not responding~Cannot keep fluids in~Cyanosis(blueness around lips/mouth)See flu.gov for signs and symptoms of H1N1 and other info. (Yes, this is American, but it has some really useful info on it.)How long does the virus live outside the body?~It can live on surfaces for a couple of hours. Hand washing is key.Risk factors:~Sugar jeopardizes you immune system reduces white blood cell abilitiy to fight off the H1N1 virus. ~Reduce alcoholic beverages. Alcohol reduces nasosilia(the nasal hairs that catch all the bugs(viruses and bacterias) that come and go out of your nose). If breast feeding keep nursing if you get sick with H1N1. You are going to pass on antibodies to your baby so he/she will become immuneor build up an immunity to H1N1.Biggest forms of prevention:Wash hands for at least 20 seconds. Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth. Get Vaccinated. JUDE 4 -

Monday, 26 Oct i got it today and it is very smart to get it. this isnt a new vaccine, just a new strain. there has been tons and tons of research on this.. my 10 month old son will be getting his in about a week. i wouldnt be able to sleep if i didnt get one, thats a huge risk to put on our unborn child. good for you! :) NinaBo-Bina -
Monday, 26 Oct I won't be scared into taking it. I tell you, I don't believe they have done enough research into this vaccination and I will cross the bridge IF I come to it as far as how to kick a cold safely. Thanks for the info. though :) roosa -
Monday, 26 Oct We have some really bad cases in our town as well, and it's so scary. I was leaning towards getting it, but I just don't feel peace about it, not knowing how it may possible affect my baby. But it is such a hard decision. All the best! mmyof3angels -
Monday, 26 Oct I wasnt going to get it either, until I read an article in the paper here about how many women have died, and I am going to do it now. I know its VERY risky, but I would rather be safe then sorry and have to worry about me or my little one. Let me know when you are getting it! MamaLuvnJah -
Monday, 26 Oct Holy crap! Your scaring me. I went to the grocery store yesterday wearing a mask and I didn't care how silly I looked. We're not getting the vaccine. We are playing it safe. Not leaving the house only to go outside to nature destinations, doctors or grocery. None of my son's Pediatricians patients have been hospitalized and symptoms have been mild. His friend and cousins under age 5 had it and recovered. Your stories are scary. Wow.
