13-8-2008 - Birth Story happy & contentMy mood while writing this blog:
happy & content

Briefly~ After being 14 days over I was induced :(

I was lucky that I only need the gel applied once. 2 hours later things started. It took 5 hours to dialate 5 cm & other 5 for the full 10cm. The contractions were intense but bearable. I was using a labour Tens machine from the start of the cramps & all the way to the end. I used the gas on 20% for the last 4 hour hours :) the 2 together worked brilliantly for me. I found the pushing stage the demanding as you body just takes over, I had only 3 hours of pushing however it only felt like an hour... With the labour lasting 13 hours 12 mins, it did not feel like it, I didnt get the burning feeling that people talk about with bubs is crowning. Feeling my babies head pop out, then his shoulder was fantastic.. The whole labour experience for me was NO WHERE near as bad as i thought is would be... I had many plans for my labour, pressure point thereapy, heat pack, lavender oil burning & music.. None of these came into play I didnt need them & was happy for the room to be silent.. My husband said I was focused & in my own space/ world. I didnt mind if I was touched me, but not there was a limit.

I will go back again :) There is nothing like holding your bub for the first time looking at the little face..

Things that helped me thru labour,

My husband telling me when a contraction was due to start, then telling me i was half way thru one & about to go down the other side of the contraction. When I needed to start sucking on the gas (towards end)

Sitting on the ball leaning over the corner of the bed bouncing when I was told the contraction was coming.

Hip sways, circles (early labour) & walking around.

Massaging my own hips with the heal of my hand. Found if i was touched too much I could not concentrate. (Pushing faze)

A big thing for me was talking to Morgan telling him to descend down for me & visualizing dialation.

Drinking LOTS of water.. I had a litter bottle beside me the whole time & i drank 3 & a half litters. during labour alone.

Only downfall for sing the gas was my muscles were a little sore the next day, only to touch not moving around. It was gone the next day. Happy with that.
