19-1-2010 - A little frustrated!

My mood while writing this blog:
Not fair:(

So I went for my 28 week check up with my midwife, had my glucose test done (which I really hope passes!) And even had acupuncture done for my sciatica and hayfever as she is trained in it. While she was listening to the heartbeat with the doppler she commented that she is still picking up the placenta before she picks up baby's heartbeat which tells her that the placeta is still low. She had told me that I could have a scan at 30 weeks to check it but now shes saying I cant have a scan until 32 weeks as she sees it as a waste of time as it still may not have moved and usually 32 weeks is the time for a re scan and its a waste of government money when its not necessary blah blah blah! (Shes very by the book!) This upset me and I just wanted to cry (dam hormones!) I just need to know for sure that im having a girl!! Im in the process of getting a good friend to make my baby shower invites, and it still means I cant buy anything that I may think is cute just incase! It also upsets me that the placenta is low as the thought of a c section scares me more than anything - I just dont want one for so many reasons:(
Lets just hope that theres some really good news when I finally do get to have my scan, such as I can have a normal birth!

hey huney hang in there i know it is a long wait though- there not giving me my scan to see if the placenta is moved untill week 34 so still a bit of a wait here too :( like you though i defo dont want to have a section would much prefer to go it myself but ill just have to wait it out also and see what happens

So sorry hun. I'm not sure how your finances are, but is there any way you can go to a private clinic? That's where I found out the gender. It cost about $50 but sometimes that's worth your sanity. As far as the placenta, I wouldn't worry. Your uterus is always growing and I'm sure it's out of the way already, but they can't tell that with a doppler. Best wishes though! Only 4 weeks until you'll know. I know it'll feel like forever when you're wanting to know so bad.

Hmmmm, Midwives! my first one was a shocker in so many different ways, she used to talk more about her other paitents on my visit than to me about mine, she told me a month and a half that she would not attend my birth as she had hurt her back and was not doing first time births as they were too much hard work!!! These are just a couple of things. I think if it is causing you stress you should tell her that you really need the peace of mind that a scan will bring even if it does just back up her prognosis of a low lying placenta, tell her you are loosing sleep and it is affecting your day to day function.What I realised is with my first experience is that these are health professionals that are there for US and our babies and if you want a test done or something then you can have it! you just need to push.My midwife I have now told me if there was anything bothering me at all to let her know even if it wasn't related directly to the baby, it can still affect my pregnancy, she said there are all number of free referals we are entitled to as pregnant women and sent me to the local hospital for a phisio session for my sciatica which has worked wonders, I got some stetches to do and a massage that has solved that problem but if it flares again I just go staight back! bliss. You can also see a dietician, GP, social worker, Chiropracter...you name it if it is in the health sector its there for you for free, this is something my first midwife never told me. Sorry for the epic rant but I really learnt a lesson from my first midwife and think you should get your scan if you want it, its not about her its about you. Good luckxx

good luck to you Nikki-Lee! I know how you feel..i have become increasingly disapointed with my midwife too,.she doesnt explain anything shes doing with me..i haVe to ask! AND she has the MESSIEST handwriting EVER! I had my sugar bloodtest today also and the blood nurse couldnt read any of it except for my first name! GRrrrrrrrrrrrr i hate it how little annoying things are getting to me.. i need a frozen coke (my craving)Hows things anywho?
