My mood while writing this blog: Calmer |
For those of you who hadn't read my "It's a boy" blog yesterday, I had also found out that my baby has club foot on his right foot. We don't really know the severity of it yet but I was an absolute mess yesterday. No one wants to know that their baby might have any challenges at birth no matter what degree it is. I did some much needed research on this condition and feel a lot better about the treatments. I had to search deep within myself to find all the things I am grateful for with this beautiful baby by gift from God. I had to have acceptance and faith that this will be o.k. I will be going in for an additional screening at 24 weeks to check the heart valves and be sure that the heart is developing properly. The ultrasound showed Jack's heartbeat 150 bpm. He weighs 10 0z. and he has all his fingers, toes, kidneys, his brain looks beautiful and from what we saw, he has a healthy heart. I originally felt like I had done something or not done something until I read in bold letters for this condition " This is not a result of anything you did or did not do" and I felt a whirlwind of serenity over that. At least this is something that my honey and I don't need to quietly wonder who's genes caused this. Thank you so much ladies for all of the positive feedback and concern. This is just a slight bump in the road. One we can overcome. With the right treatment, baby Jack will be walking by the time he is 2 and no one would have ever guessed. On a good note, I continue to feel Jack moving around all the time. He is an active lil man. I just love this boy!

Friday, 23 Oct I just wanted you to know that when my little boy was born we found out he had 2 "deformities" not caught on ultrasound. He had the oposite of club foot "calcaneous valgus" when the ankle/foot is tilted up and out--I can post a pic if you want to see it; and he had fairly severe torticollis "tilted neck" where hi head lay against his right shoulder and nis neck was too tight to pull his head up straight. He was seen by a pediatric orthopaedist in the hospital and we were given an at home regimen of stretches to do several times a day for the first 2 months. Then he was x-rayed and continued to be seen by the orthopaedist for a few months. Now all is well and he is a normal active little 14 month old. Some docs said he would have to be in a cast or special boot to fix his foot and a helmet to fix his head/neck. With immediate intervention by the orthopaedist he didn't need any of that. Just some physical therapy and stretching. Hope all works out well for you and your little peanut! evrcastanon -

Tuesday, 13 Oct Hi Nina - Glad you are feeling better. Nothing is as comforting as knowledge and information. Its too bad your practioner didn't better prepare or inform you when they told you. Shock sucks - especially in regards to a baby. Glad to hear he is moving around - my bb is pretty still except for gentle tap in the evening that I only feel when lying still and quiet. I was told I have a posterior placenta , and a tilted uterus so I wonder if that delays the sensation of kicking, or just insulates them a bit more??? Anyway, keep us updated - BTW LOVE the name Jack..... DH won't consider that name bc my first bf in highschool was named Jack.... silly men eh? DoeysGirl (Cassie) -
