02-12-2009 - Legs Swelling!

My mood while writing this blog:
Uncomfortable

Well, the last couple days I have noticed that I can't stop scratching my lower legs, both of them! The itching has been driving me bonkers and then last night as I was getting ready for bed, I noticed that my legs looked like tree stumps. They were fat and then towards the ankles, they got smaller. I took a good look at my feet and they seem substantially bigger then usual. I don't know if after seeing the swelling if I started to feel it or if it was all in my head but it seemed to sting a bit when I put pressure on it. I woke up feeling exactly the same, now I read about a condition called preclampsia. Says if this condition persists more then 48 hrs. or blood pressure high, can be dangerous. I put a call into my OB this morning. I haven't heard back yet. I see her anyway tomorrow after work. I remember with my son, I had something called Toximia when I was around 7 months. Think I am having the same condition? Think I should be concerened? It disappoints me a little bit that my body isn't taking well to pregnancy. The pain all day in my ribs and back. The discomfort. The constipation. The sleepless nights. I wish I was a bit younger. Maybe I could handle all of these things much better. Well, I will see my doc tomorrow worse case scenario and I will get my referral for the measurement u/s, can't wait! I also have to get my RH Negative factor shot because I am type O negative blood. This is only good when donating from what I hear! Hope this message finds you all doing well!

Hey what ever came out of your leg swelling issue cause after reading your blog I have the exact same pain and itching in them and its driving me nuts. They are getting red blotchy spots on them. Please let me know when you can. Thanks.

Swelling is normal and if it's just your legs and not anywhere else that might be okay. The itching could be the PUPPS rash, sucks for you but harmless to the pregnancy. I hope all is well and that you feel better!!!

swelling is usually common in pregnancies but if you seem that worried then its a good thing you did call your o/b. im sure nothing serious is going on. hope you get better!! ..huuuugs.

i would deff tell ur dr about all the swelling and on another not i think ur body is ok with pregnancy cause all those symptoms u have named exept maybe the swelling is normal at this stage in pregnancy so age really dont matter on that lol i am only 24 and i have back pain so bad sometimes i cant stand it and last week i was feeling fine this week i am so tierd and sleppy and exhaustid i just want to be done with this preggo thing only about 10 weeks till our babys are full term

I would defenitely tell your doctor, I had issues with swelling and bloodpressure towards the end of my pregnancy, like the last 6 weeks. I was induced cause of my bp being 160/96...at a non stress sitting there doing nothing. I was also pregnant in the summer and I think that made my swelling even worse, luckily i didn't have pre eclampsia.. Good Luck..hope it gets better.

I had leg/feet swelling the last 6 weeks of my first pregnancy. It got so bad I couldn't bend my ankles. My blood pressure was also high (150/90) and I was tested several times weekly for pre-eclampsia but thankfully never got it. I got scheduled for induction at full term because of the blood pressure but went into labor naturally a couple of days before. Definitely talk to your doctor about it, but it is normal for many. xox

I would call your doctor again and talk to whoever answers the phone and let them know what is going on. Don't worry but do ask just so you have some piece of mind. Keep us posted.

Try not to worry too much! its pretty normal to swell during pregnancy! i am sorry you are not feeling well! Hope you feel better.

i had the same thing with my son but havent had it with my lil girl...i think it was called preclamspia and i got put on bed rest but i am not the type just to lay around but my legs swelled up bad and it looked horrible!! your in my prayers....let me know what they say!

Leg swelling is quite common in the last trimester of pregnancy. I have had it with all mine, and never escalated to anything serious. Preeclampsia usually happens with 1st time pregnancies, and of course your risk goes up for later pregnancie, and if you are under 20 or over 35. Atleast those I have known with it, that was their case and what they were told. High blood pressure and protein in the urine are usually the 1st signs. It sounds like you just have the typical annoying swelling:-)
