04-12-2009 - Protein In The Urine???

My mood while writing this blog:
Confused

So I went to see my OB yesterday after work and after sitting in the waiting room for 1 1/2 hrs..GRRRR They weighed me. I weighed in at 163 lbs. OMG! I swear I don't feel that big! Anyhow, my darling honey was so annoyed that he stepped out to check some voice mails and I come to find out later that really he sat outside of the office praying to God fro more patience as he said he had a really tough day on the job and the waiting put him over the top. My doc. comes in and apologizes for the long wait as she had 2 patience ready to go into labor and had both of them on 20 minute fetal heart monitors. I wasn't that bad now that I knew I was about to hear my son's heart. She asks how I have been feeling and I told her about the constant pain above my rib which I come to find out is also the area where the Kidney is located. I tell her my back pain is getting really bad but I will see my Reumetologist on Saturday and last but not least I have this God awful swelling in my legs-both. She tells me she will have me wear some super tight knee high stocking to force circulation and that she isn't sure if the pain above my rib is realted to the pressure from the uterus pushing on the kidney pushing on the rib or if I might have some kidney stones. She said she is most concerned with the fact that I have protein in my urine. I believe that's what she said. Is it protein in my urine or lack of it?? She is sending me to get a urine container when I go for my Rhogam shot that I need to pee in for 24 hrs and then they test the level of protein within that period.I am so confused about it all. I asked her if the results are not good, what medication do I take to fix this problem and she tells me the only medication for this is delivery! Huh?? She said however we need to keep baby inside for longer so you will be put on bedrest! OMG! Why?? This does end well though. It was time to hear Jack's heart which was so strong, my lil man! She then flipped the screen to the video and she sent someone to waiting room to grab daddy but that ass was still outside sulking and missed it all! Right away there was Jack. He has gotten so big! His face was so clear. His little nose was so cute! He kicked a couple times and then she showed me his little leg bent by the knees. His legs looked so long! I saw his heart beating and his little stomache. Keep in mind her machine really sucks but this was so clear! My boy looked so good and strong and healthy! I finally got my u/s for the measurement and to check on his club foot. I am waiting very paitently to call 1st thing this morning! All in all, seeing my son made all the other news and challenges worth while! Sorry this was so long. I'm that girl that takes 1 hr to tell a 10 minute story. :)

i just had protein in my urine as well....the doc said it could be that i am not drinking enough water..or that this late in the pregnancy there is more discharge and that it was a result of that...my doc didnt seem to concerened but who knows...they didnt even tell me that this last ultrasound was because they wanted to check his cord because it was not as kinked as they would like it to be!! nice of them to let me know!!! *aww!* I LOVEEEEE getting ultrasounds!! It can make a whole week of chaos seem not so bad. I have no clue or advice for anything else you have going on, but i can relate to the joys of seeing your baby on the big screen! I haven't had one since about 23weeks..now that im 31 weeks im mighty anxious to see him!!

Is your doc trying to put you on bed rest for your back pain? they check for protein in the urine because that indicates kidney problems, gestational diabetes or pre-eclampsia. You seem to have a strange doctor. Why does not she explain things to you? You know you can ask as many questions as you like of your doc. I hate the feeling of being confused because there are many doctors in this country who are like puppets of the insurance companies and heavily influenced by drug reps and do not know anything about alternative medicine or underlying causes of diseases.

Sorry about the bad news. I hope they won't have to put you on bed rest. It's not fun. It puts more stress on our hubby's too. You crack me up when you said you caught his ass trying to take a peek at your weight cause you always make him leave the room. Now he had a fit and missed the U/S. He he! I laugh cause my hubby has been throwing fits lately too. Men can't handle all this crazy pregnancy stuff. We don't have long to go and finally we'll have our bodies back and a lil man to snuggle. I'll say a prayer for you too.

ive never heard of this but i hope that it clears and that you dont have bedrest. as long as the baby is ok, which it sounds like it is, then thats what matters the most :) i hope things go well

With my daughter they found protien in my urine, plus I had horrible swelling and bloodpressure issues..so they were concerned that I could become pre eclampsia.... So I had to do the 24 hr urnine twice,,,,ah a pain in the butt lol.... and they turned out good. I was induced at 39 weeks for high bloodpressure... If you do have pre eclampsia the only way to fix it is delivery... if not the mom could go into seizures... Good luck with the 24 hr urine... hope everything works out, I'm sure it will be fine.. :)

The only thing I can clarify for you is that they found protein in your urine. This can be caused by a couple different things so that is probably what they are testing to find out. I will keep you in my prayers hun for no bed rest! I am so glad you got to see baby jack! Men are so funny aren't they! Geez! Lol always throwing a fit! HAHA! Good luck hun!

You and I have similar due dates, and it scares me that you may have to be on bedrest and the only "medication" to fix this problem is bedrest! I do not quite understand the protein in urine. You should call your doctor to clarify. I also am with you on the leg swelling and backaches. My legs are hurting bad. I do exercise and found that laying in a bath and moving/twisting your ankles does help.In thoughts and prayers,Danielle (littleone123)

There are sooooooo mant things that can cause protein in your pee including emotional stress which pregnancy in itself is good for.So happy to hear about baby Jack, that must've been so exciting seeing his cute little face!!!!

so was it preclampsia or toxemia? i hated bed rest but its for your lil one....i dont think your the type to lay around either but lay off salt anything that has salt dont eat or drink it that will help with circulation!!
