Hi ladies! I hope aeveryone had a wonderful Christmas and that the babies are doing well in and out of our wombs. I had a Dr. appointment with my OB on Christmas Eve day and she went over my ultrasound results. She tells me that my son is a big baby which they told me already at the time of the u/s. She says that I am already 67% effaced and that starting next week when I come in for my appointments, they will have me on a 20 minute fetal monitor going forward. She tells me that I have all the symptoms of pre-eclampsia however I don't have high blood pressure. The fetal medicine Dr. wants to really monitor the measurements of Jack and has asked me in for another measurement u/s at 34 weeks. I also just got back from getting an u/s on my kidneys, gullbladder, spleen and liver. I hope to get the results back by Monday. Somethng just doesn't feel right near my right kidney as there is so much pain. The protein in the urine might be a sign that there is a bigger problem but I pray that it isn't. I just want my son to go to term. I want to be able to take lil man home right after he's born. Any problems my body may be having can be addressed after I have my son safely delivered into this world. The good news is this, my Dr. said if Jack doesn't come on his own before February 26th, she has given me this day as an induction date. She said she will not let me go to my due date and with monitoring his growth, she might need to induce even sooner. She tells me that before they induce, they will do an amnio to make sure Jack's lungs are developed enough. She also tells me that it's the strangest thing but I am measuring with my uterus like a woman who has never given birth before. She said my uterus is filling out straight up to my ribs as apposed to a mother of 2 children like myself who's uterus has been previously stretched allowing the uterus to expand sideways too. She said my belly is so tight. No flabbiness. No excess skin. Like a 1st timer..lol So much information I wanted to share but my primary purpose of this blog was to ask, what does it really mean to be effaced? Is this a bad sign of pre-term delivery? Is 67% high for 30 weeks? Any information on ladies with previous experience or knowlege is much appreciated and the internet isn't giving me the straight answers I seek and I can't talk to my Dr. again until January 6th.

well nina 67% effaced, medical term... i believe your body is getting ready to deliver, our prayer is that it doesnt get to a 100%, until when baby 's lungs are ready to breathe on its own. i don't believe u should be scared u might not get to a 100% till when u are due. i think the docs just like to take preemptive and precautionary measures, by doing the fetal monitor stuff. which is wise. don't be scared pray to god for a healthy baby, going home with you and that's what u 'll get. cheers

My oldest was born at 30 weeks and he's great!!! I'm sure you'll make it longer but don't stress out about it, leave it in God's hands.

Hi My friend I hope everything goes well when you have Jack in your arms, I don't know exactly but my gut feeling is telling me that you are 67% from 100 of delivering your baby. Please ask the doctor just to be sure that my motherly feeling is not mistaken. I know you will have your little man with you don't stress or worry that God is with us all the time watching his little ones. Merry Christmas and God Bless you.

Every woman is different and starts effacing at different times of the pregnancy. I found out a month and a half ago that I was 50% effaced. It's like the cervix is made out of 100 sheets of paper and loses it's sheets and when we lose 100 sheets the cervix will open to deliver the baby. Did they tell you how much Jack might weigh? I pray for good health for you both. Everything will be just fine. I'm glad you don't have pre -eclampsia. Best wishes.

i effaced and dialated early with every one of my 4 pregnancies and all went to at least 37 weeks. My last i was dialated to a 5 and 90 % before i even started labor, at 32 weeks. Its just your body getting ready- thats what my dr said. Just put it this way, its less to do while in labor, so it should go faster! lol

hI i'M READING YOUR COMMENT AND JUST WANTED TO SHARE i'M CURRENTLY 30 WEEKS AND 50% EFFACED AND 1 1/2 CM AND HAVE BEEN THAT WAY SINCE WEEK 26 AND MY DOC IS NOT WORRIED SINCE THIS IS BABY # 3 FOR ME HE SAID TO JUST WATCH CONTRACTION/ PAIN AND PERSSURE MORE CLOSLEY BC YOU HAVE STARTED THE "LABOR" STAGES ALREADY AND BABY IS COME QUICKER! WITH MY BABY# 2 AT 20 WEEKS i WAS 20% THIS AND 3 CM ---DOC DID PUT MY ON BED REST BC IT WAS TOO SOON TO DELIEVER AND i CARRIED HER UNTIL WEEK 37 AND ONLY DILATED A CM MORE WHEN i WENT TO THE HOSPITAL. KUST LISTEN TO YOUR DOC AND TAKE IT EASY..... DON'T WALK MUCH TRY TO REST AND STAY OFF YOUR FEET AND YOU SHOULD HAVE A HEALTHY BEAUTIFUL BABY. pRAYING FOR u

Being effaced is your cervix thinning out, you can stay a certain percentage for a while. But normally you efface to a 100% then start to dialate. although at 34 weeks I was 50%effaced..and stayed that way for 4 weeks, when I was induced at 39 weeks, I was only 80% effaced before they started the pitocin. So you can till go to term, I'm sure they will just watch you closely, knowing that your already effaced that much, and could even give the baby steriods to develop his lungs quicker if they expect him to come sooner. Hope all works out, at least if you can make it 4-5 more weeks, you'll be ok :)

when u efface you start to dialate i did this with baby one and was dialated to a 2 for over 2 months the down falls was i had to get tributaline shots every week to stop labor since i was having contractions i did end up carrying him to term 38 weeks that is and he is a happy healthy baby their is hope u will carry to term they just need to monitor ur effacement and contractions very close cause when u efface ur cervix is getting soft so it can dialate hope this helps some
