17-3-2010 - Baby Jack 3 Weeks Old

Hey Ya'll! Jack will be 3 weeks old on Friday. I can't believe how quickly they grow, it's almost very sad. I keep wanting to go back to the moment he was born, right after the ring of fire when they 1st placed him on my stomach and I fell in love! He has been casted now for 1 week on Friday for his Club Foot and as bad as I thought it was going to be, and uncomfortable I was sure Jack would be, he's adjusted well to it. It actually hurts me more then him :/ The breast feeding is going really bad. I feel like such a failure however, I have not given up. I continue to breast feed him on both sides and supplement to top him off as he always screams in hunger even if he spends 20-30 minutes latched on. I have pumped to see what I can get and I barely get a teaspoon full! I know I can't provide him with enough yet I keep trying! I would give anyhting to be producing enough milk to feed my son. My doctor put me on a drug called Reglan to increase my supply. I only have about 3 days as it's a 7 day supply. I can only hope it will increase by some. I love the connection between me and my son when I breastfeed, I am so sad! I go to a BF support group on Mondays and actually, It's quite depressing to see how well these other babies latch on and how these mother's can provide their babies with milk and I can't, I think I will stop going, too painful :( On a brighter note, Jack is now 22 inches as he was born 19 1/2 inches. He is only weighing 7 lbs 9 oz. but he lost 7 oz. after birth and has gained it all back and then a cpl oz. I think that's normal. I swear this boy eats way more then he's weighing in at. I will post some new pics when I get a minute to breathe. I just love being Jack's mama and am so in love with this little boy! For those of you who are awaiting your bundles of joy, just wait till you feel the way I do and those TTC, never ever give up! Miss my IAP friends. Hopefully our lives will settle a little and we can all catch up!

ass long as he is feeding and gaining some weight..dont stress on how you feed him :) bottle feeding can also give you that bonding feeling even though i know its not the same thing. him hoping to do breast feed too but i have formula just incase i have to supplement as well. as long as the baby is fed and happy :)

don't give up ... keep trying to breastfeed ... I would say pump more often to big up your milk supply and feed little Jack more often ... it helps : )

You sound like an amazing mom! Here's some info that may be helpful to you: -Fenugreek herbal supplement worked for me and 3 other women in my breast feeding group. Maybe it would be worth a try after your prescription if it's okay with your doc. They sell it at Whole Foods & Health Food stores.-It helped me to use a hot washcloth (or right after I showered) and to feed only on one side to get the hind milk to release. My son felt more full that way getting more fat and calories with the hind milk.Hang in there and do whatever you feel is right!

Ah hun dont feel like a failure, at least your trying. Whatever little he is getting is better than nothing and you will be paaing your immunity to him through that which is better than formula alone will do. My mum and sister couldnt breast feed either they would squeeze and squeeze and nothing would come out. Its natures choice not yours. It's not like your choosing to hold it back, theres nothing you can do if its not there so dont despair. x x

Oh I forgot to say at least you got to see what it's like. I never did cause of fear of popping one of my old breast implants. I'd hate to be walking around w/ one boob! ha ha ha! The urge this 2nd time around to bread feed was animal instinct. The 1st time wasn't. It was really hard for me not to. I'm the sad one. Your lucky.

I feel the same way. Although I didn't have a ring of fire this time around cause they lubed me up w/ mineral oil. God that stuff worked wonders. Anyways my butt felt like it was being ripped a new one. TMI. But I know how you felt the relief after the head was out and the warmth of my baby's body up against mine and to see his face for the 1st time and love at 1st sight. There is nothing better in the world. Praises to JAH most high!

Aw, don't feel like a failure because of the breastfeeding (although if I couldn't do it I would feel the same- you and I I feel are alike in these feelings). I also keep going back to the Ring of Fire and the baby in the arms part. Enjoy being a great mother. :)

Glad to hear Jack is doing good with his cast for his foot. My mom would know how you feel about you being in more pain that he is. When I was born I had cleft lip and both my arms had to be in cast so that I could not touch my lip after I had sugery at 2 months. My mom said it really did not bother me but it killed her to see me that way. As for the breastfeeding I wish you the best of luck and hope it turns around for you.

Thats good to hear he's doing well. I had soo many problems bf'd my daughter. I got thrush =( and then pumped every 2 hrs and couldn't even get 3 oz out in a day.. I tried the fenugreek, blessed thistle and even Reglan and it didn't help me..hopefully it will help you. I think some people just don't make enough sometimes..everyone says ' our bodies will make it..bla bla bla.. That's bull, cause I really wanted to do it and couldint make anything..and I felt bad, but you shouldn't your giving it all you got and if you end up just having to go to formula...that's fine to..it doesn't mean your any less of a mom or that you care less. But I do hope it gets better for you and I hope to GOD I make milk like a cow this time lol.. I can't wait..the time does go by really fast. :)

Hi Nina, I had major supply problems with my first son and I know how it can make you feel. Just another thing to try if you're interested...There are two herbal supplements that I took that are supposed to help naturally increase supply. They are called Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle. Here is a little info on them http://www.loveyourbaby.com/blessed-thistle.html . I used them both and I did see an increase in my milk. Also, I you are looking for breastfeeding support where there will be others there with similar problems try to look up your local LaLeche League chapter. I found them very helpful while I was having problems...not to mention the support is completely FREE! I hope things get better for you soon, but try not to be too hard on yourself. Your little Jack is growing, gaining and is healthy and that's the most important thing. Much love and support, Sam xoxoxo.

hunny, research the reglan please. My doctor was going to put me on it, but found out its causing a bunch of issues. Theres even a lawsuit going on because of it right now. Better safe then sorry
