| 21-11-2008 - Childbirth Classes | My mood while writing this blog:Happy/Informative |
Well I must say I really enjoyed my childbirth classes... besides the nasty ass snacks the instructor provides (lol). First class Darnell and I went and it was pretty much the basics of childbirth and delivering naturally, the stages of childbirth and what the support person or person(s) role was.. the class was about 31/2 hours long ..OMG!! But we made it through watched some videos that scared the sh*t out of me but all in all I enjoyed the experience and it was something that focused on just us and the baby.
Second class was the best.. Mom came this time because I want her in the room with me as well. We cut up a bit (it was another girl in there with her mother and both her and my mom thought they knew more than the instructor :). I told them they were acting like the bad students that sit in the back of the class..lol..but we had fun. We discussed pain relief, the pros and cons of epidurals, breastfeeding, and we did some breathing techniques... She actually did this exercise were we had to grip a piece of cold ice in our hands and close our hands like a fist.. our support person had to then hold our hands so we couldn't open it up (just imagine how cold that ice was) and we had to hold it for 30 seconds simulating a mild contraction then 90 seconds simulating a stronger contraction.. while holding it we had to practice our breathing through the pain of the cold ice. It was pretty neat and I actually shocked myself in how I was able to concentrate on breathing and not focusing on the ice in my hands!!! YAY!!! I may actually be able to do this!!!!LOL We also got to tour the hospital.. and see the NURSERY AND LITTLE BABIES!
Third class Darnell came with me.. he was so comforting, my back was hurting real bad and he messaged and rubbed it the whole time for me (I love my baby). We mainly discussed CPR and practiced it on dollbabies, what to do in emergencies if the baby is choking, etc. We also talked about parenting skills and what to expect in the first years. We saw the cutest video .. it was showed what to expect during the first 28days (newborn) from the babies point of view.. it was too cute! I learned babies are extremly smart even at that stage, its a lot of jestures they do to tell you what the want and don't want.. I was very shocked!!
But everything went well, if you're a first time mommy.. I really would recommend going. My classess were very informative and it helped bonding with my fiance. You have so many distractions going on in the outside world, these classes focus only on the baby and becoming a family.
