| 10-8-2009 - BEDREST!!!! | My mood while writing this blog:Distraught |
So....I never thought this would happen to me...I have had a fairly easy pregnancy with no complications. So over the last week I had noticed an increase in BH contractions. Totally more than the norm. I really felt like I had a urinary infection. Well I called my OB on Thursday and they basically were like just relax and come in on your regular Tuesday appt. (dumb advice-I should have said NO I WANT TO BE SEEN NOW!) well anyways I took it easy this weekend and by Sunday they were so frequent. Not painful at all or what I would think "labor pains" would be like. Just uncomfortable. Well, I decided to head on in to the L&D unit and get some things checked out! They hooked me up to the monitor and sure enough I was having contractions. They checked my cervix which was already dilating to a 1 and I was begining to efface. SERIOUSLY FREAKED ME OUT! How was this happening? They also sent down tests to see which infections I had and a fibrinecton (sp?) test to see the probability of me going into labor. Well, I have bacterial vaginosis AND a yeast infection all which caused uterine irritability. The fibrinecton came back NEGATIVE! Thankfully that is great news. SO basically this whole preterm labor was caused by nasty infections. SOOO-they gave me terbutaline to slow the contractions. It worked beatifully but it made my heart race and my hands shake. They also sent me home with Procardia which slows contractions and Flagyl for the infections. I got a shot of steriod for the babys lungs and I go back tonight for another one. All of this has really freaked me out and made me so stressed (which is totally not good right not). I dont know how to lay in bed all day! Plus they said I may not be able to go back to work. I understand why-I work in an intense ICU as a nurse for 12 hour shifts! I dont think thats possible when you are having cervical changes! Hopefully the meds work and baby and I are ok. The Dr said if I make it to 34 weeks the baby has a 98% chance of intact survival (meaning making all of milestones later in life and such). I bet my OB tells me to not work this week while the antibiotics kick in and maybe she will monitor me more frequently. Im so lucky my husband is around and so helpful and my mom is coming over to cook me some meals to keep me off my feet. My belly is so sore and I was blaming it on just being pregnant when all the while it was because I was having continous Braxton Hicks! Pray for me and my little one. I really feel like this will be ok but I am so freaked out beyond belief. Im so thankful I trusted my gut (even if it was a little delayed) and went in when I felt I should.
