(Note) Most pregnancy tests use a decision level of 25 mIU/mL. If clinically indicated, patients with detectable levels of B-hCG between 5 and 25 mIU/mL should be retested after several days. Healthy postmenopausal woman may have B-hCG levels of up to 8 mIU/mL. The interpretation of positive hCG results requires caution. Consistently falsely elevated levels of serene hCG may infrequently occur due to the presence of heterophilic antibodies. If a positive hCG is suspect, we recommend using urine hCG (pregnancy test) for confirmation.
