My mood while writing this blog: In thought / very excited |
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a very exciting day!!
Ok, so I went to my 32 week scan this morning. Emily-Rose is doing GREAT! she is measuring around 2 weeks ahead with the exception of those lovely long legs which are a little further on. My leggy blondie princess!! hehe (assuming her hair colour will be light like Steve and I when we were born)
Fluid surrounding her is fine, my BP is fine, no protein in my urine, total of 13lbs weight gain for me (well us!), Emilys head pointing down, movement fine, her heartbeat is great. So all good. No pics from the scan, she was too big to get a good profile and again her hands were in the way!
I then went to see the specialist, my lovely Dr is on annual level so I see another Dr who I have met before in Gyne when I had my 2nd m/c. He is a nice guy. He checked me over, read the scan report and said all is good. 'We will see you in two weeks for another scan, just for reassurance'.....cool I thought. I asked if I needed to continue with the aspirin, he said yes until around 34 - 35 weeks.
He said any other questions, I said yes - I am thinking about my birthing options and I want a water birth at home. I just wanted to check I am not high risk or that there are any restrictions on me. He said, I am not high risk but I am a risk. So he would recommend I am very closely monitored during labour in hospital with a note to get ready for a caesarean. I was a bit surprised at that. He said to me 'are you scared of losing the baby' I said....Yes. He said then also consider an elective caesarean when making your plans........WTF????? He said 10 years ago I would have been told this is the route but now its my choice. So now I am in a spin. I wanted a home birth, as natural as possible and now I am scared that this is too risky.
I will speak to my normal Dr when I go back in two weeks. Luckily I had bookmarked the birthing pool website, I thought I would just check before buying it!!! Bummer.
Good news!! I got a call yesterday to say the pram and car seat is in, so after my appointment I popped up to the shop to collect it!! yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! at last!!! I love it!!! We have got it all set up, I keep looking at it, imagining my beautiful little girl in there....awwww. I will post some pics when I get a mo, probably not tonight as I am at antenatal.
I had better get on with some work, as if I wasnt busy enough another person has called in sick.....guess who is covering.....yep, me.
Take care all, ttyl

Monday, 29 Jun Awww Rach how exciting my friend. Don't let the doctors scare you off just do what you feel is right after speaking with your regular doctor. mumjen -
Friday, 26 Jun Hi Rach, just wanted to say I too wanted an all natural birth - this is the only baby we plan on having so i wanted the full experience. I too was very disapointed when Dr told me I had to have a c/section no Q asked. My hubby tried to consoul me best he could but being emotional irrational and upset i did not want to hear it. I was told this at 14 weeks so i have had time to thnk about it. Reality is - the least stressful and less complicated for baby is fine by me, I will deal with what i have too as long as my darling coming into this world with the least amount of effort - then great for baby. So maybe try find a water birth at a hospital as an alternative or natural at a hospital. I know its not what you had your mind set on, but try working around it. Best of luck and hope this helps. 2LadsAndLilLady! -
Friday, 26 Jun Thats all good, apart form the possible c section part, best bet just ask for natural birth in hospital though, you can always have water birth there too, i know not same as home but safer for you and your princess. And if c section is needed, then so be it, as long as you and baby Emily are ok, all is ok. Ive got 39 days left to go, come on baby be early !!! x x x andriette and christians mummy liz -
Thursday, 25 Jun Hun im with minkymoo, why would u need a c section,ur pregnancy has been so good???In sa the obs or gynaes do c sections for the money,in rands(our currency)a normal birth they will pocket bout r5000 but for a c section they will pocket bout r20000.So dont let the docs fool you, please hun,i never told any1 here but 4 gynaes said if i were to give birth normaly i would get a heart attack and they all said andriette was a footling breech and she will not turn, dumb a**,i had an induction, pain free and im a for ok and she was most certaintly head down.Sowi for the nagging, but only if ur other doc ays thats the best route it would be best. And dont forget to ask why they suggest c section. Please keep me updated:-).btw my aunt was told after numerous let downs that previous misscarriages doesnt mean u need a c section when u carry full term. mommylove09 -
Thursday, 25 Jun No fair Rach - how is it you only gained 13lbs total? I am up 13 lbs and I am only 25 weeks! Do you work out? shavg -
Wednesday, 24 Jun I dont quite understand why that doctor was saying elective c-sec is the way...some dr's are totally c-secs all the way, and i am not sure why, but it makes me mad. Women have been delivering babies for thousands and thousands of years. I say make a judgement call as u get closer, but dont let that silly doc make ur mind upfor you, get a couple of opinions. I'm not exactly sure why he thinks your at risk, I had a friend who had 5 m/c before concieving her second son and she delivered him no sweat. If you feel slightly worried about it, i would go for the hospital delivery, but as natural as you can. If you have agood midwife this can be very natural atleast your on the safe side. And for a doctor to ask "if you want to lose your baby" Im sorry but he sounds like an ass...Get a second opinion rach :) Take care x0x flick -
Wednesday, 24 Jun Hi Rach Im not to bad thanx just keep getting this terrible acid arrggghhhh,I will be glad when I am just me one person again to be honest besides cant wait to see my little girl ,I have my second part of my 4d scan coming up on 11th of july will post when get pics ,pleased you got pram and seat it makes it feel all the more real I couldnt stop messing around with mine either lol, what we like aye we will be walking to the shops all the time just so we can take out our prams hahaha .xxxx trinity -
Wednesday, 24 Jun In my experience the less intervention the easier and better labor is for you. But I do think it is good to be in a hospital for safety. Just yet natural at the hospital. Then if all goes well maybe an at home would be good for your next baby. mommabell -
Wednesday, 24 Jun Just do whatever you have to do that is safe for the baby, but i know you already know that :0) MrsMommy2 -
Wednesday, 24 Jun Glad to hear your apt. went well w/ the scan!! And YAY you finally got your pram can't wait to see pix i'm sure it is lovely! Sorry to hear your birthing plans may not turn out the way you were hoping. If you do end up having to go the c-section route its not nearly as bad as everybody makes it out to be due to my health issues I did a c-section w/ my son and will with this baby as well. The best advice I can give you is as soon as they say your allowed out of bed which for me was the day after my son was born get up and move around as much as you can getting up the first time is the hardest part of the whole thing I thought but once you start moving around and sort of loosening up the soreness isn't so bad. Honestly Wyatt was born on a friday I spent all day saturday out of bed walking around or sitting up in one of the chairs in my room and didn't take any pain meds that whole day I think I only took 1 pain pill (after the 1st day) and that was the one they wanted me to take for the ride home. So its not so bad! But I hope you get to do whatever birthing option you want to do! :) minkymoo78 -
Wednesday, 24 Jun I don't understand, why would you need a cesearean?? And why are you classed as a risk? I thought with the pregnancy being problem free you would just have a completely normal birth/delivery? Email me at work tomorrow and explain to me, I'm confused. xxx Vicki--mommy of 4 -
Wednesday, 24 Jun Wow, time is flying. I'm so happy for you hun. Not much longer and you will hold your beautiful Emily Rose in your arms. I'm so excited for you. Take care hun! firsttimemom8122 -
Wednesday, 24 Jun Hey hunnie, PLEASE get a second opinion about that c-section I know your doctor is looking out for you and Ms. Emily Rose but I would just want a second doctors opinion. I know you will be OKAY I have faith that everything will go GOOD. shesha -
Wednesday, 24 Jun I agree with the other ladies, make sure you ask your doc that way you are getting a second opinion. I realy wanted a VBAC with this one, since my first two were vaginal (epidural with 1st and no pain with second) then a C-sec with the 3rd because she was footling breach. I seen my doc, 2 specialists lol and a midwife and asked them all and they all did say another c-sec because of the closeness of the two (11-12 months apart). If you do have to have a c-sec remember to walk after and while still in the hospital, its painful at first but your recovery is SOOOO much faster! I promise! Savvy -
Wednesday, 24 Jun Sorry about the c-section talk. Hope ur doctor don/t think u need it. See that is the reason I am schedule for a c-section as well. I guess cause I am high risk and along with that I have other complications..take care. hopefuldj -
Wednesday, 24 Jun I'm sorry about your plans, Rach. I'd be confused & disappointed, too. It's a good idea to check back with your regular doctor, to get another opinion. Congrats on the pram, though. I'm still trying to hunt down a used Chariot, but it's looking more & more like I'd better just order one. I can't wait to see a picture of yours! MrsStrickland74 -
Wednesday, 24 Jun Happy to hear everything is going well. I hope that you do get your ideal birth plan! supaflychick1982 -
Wednesday, 24 Jun Crazy how things can throw you for a loop but at least you ended your day on a brighter note. Getting the things you've waited the entire pregnancy for. I know you want the best and most memorable birthing experience possible but just weigh the options and see what would bring her here the safest. Good luck.
