My mood while writing this blog: Uncomfy and fed up |
Hi beautiful ladies!
As you know, I had a midwife appointment on Monday where they were measuring me at 40 weeks instead of 36. They said they would check me again on Monday then send me for a scan on Wednesday next week if I was still ahead. Everything changed and I got called in today.
Well, what a waste of time. I got there, they said no point in checking your BP and urine etc.as you had it done on Monday which was fine by me. They said we will put you straight in with the specialist. I said 'hang on, I am here to check the baby size, shouldnt you be scanning me first?' lots of confusion ensued. They then said, we will put you in with the registrar who will check and scan you, Then answer your questions.
Ok. So this is the third time I have been to the hospital and not actually seen my Specialist. Anyway, so I go see the registrar who put the tape measure on my public bone and pushed so hard I let out a small yelp. It was so painful, he then bought the tape measure up but didnt actually go as high as my whole belly. He said you are measuring 38 weeks, that is within normal range. Then he said, let me check again, he again pushed so hard on my pelvic area I said to him 'you are really hurting me' he seemed to ignore that and carry on. He said, 39 weeks. Ok lets check the baby on the scan.
He didnt tell me anything about the measurements, all he said was theres the heart, gave me a two second blast of the sound and said she is in the right position but that can change. So I asked for a weight estimate when he had finished and he said oh I didnt measure the baby belly so I dont know. We sat down after the scan and he said that baby is measuring 2 to 2.5 weeks ahead and the extra fluid will account for the external measurements being ahead - I already knew this was the case so I learned nothing new. I asked him about the aspirin, he asked me why I am taking it (!) so I had to explain. He confirmed I can stop now.
So, all I really gained out of the hospital trip is a very sore pelvis. Hacked off :( I go back in two weeks for the same thing. I hope she arrives before then x

Thursday, 23 Jul I would be a raving mad women. I hate dealing in stupid incompotent people. Next time just insist on seeing the senoir Dr on Duty. My belly as such has NEVER been measured. Each and every time I my Dr Does a scan himself and I can ask as many questions as i like. He at every visit measured the head, baby tummy and the thigh of baby. He said without these you cant really tell anything for sure about baby's growth. So next time insist they put you back on the machine (dont give in) untill they do as you have asked. It's your right as a patient and client!! Dont take their crappy service - demand better. Take care and good luck for the next few weeks. lynsey-3 -

Wednesday, 22 Jul Awwwww. How disappointing! Maybe the reason that you got a smaller measurement was because she's dropped already? I hope your next appointment goes better. :-) allsmiles86 -

Wednesday, 22 Jul well last week i had a growth scan and baby was weighing 6.6 and was average with his size, yet i was only measuring 33 weeks ( when i was actually 37) then today i had my38 week check up and im now measuring 37 weeks so in the space of a week ive gone from 33 to 37 so i wouldnt worry about it, its just an old meathod, as long as baby looked fine on scan thats all that matters x steph mom of 3 beauties x -

Wednesday, 22 Jul I'm there with you - the measuring larger thing. I'm measuring 38 weeks...and have been for a couple of weeks. Like you, I go to my app and walk out saying "WTF was that?". Hopefully by measuring larger, the baby will be here sooner.
Hang in there!!! mummyyumyum -

Wednesday, 22 Jul Some people become so disengaged in their emotions and that's not good when you work with people. Figures it's a man to do the pushing like that, what would they know lol. Feel better and I hope she comes before you go through that again. MrsMommy2 -
Wednesday, 22 Jul Gz it sounds to me like they didn't know what you were there for so they were just getting you in and out. Jerks! I hate it when people esp. doctors don't have there stuff together. Hopefully your next visit goes better or Emily makes her debut! expecting-2b-patient (Cheryl) -
Wednesday, 22 Jul I am sorry you had such a frustrating visit! Just think you are down to the nitty gritty and wont have to deal with jerks like that for much longer! I know you must be so anxious and want as much information as possible, I would too! Diegirl -
Wednesday, 22 Jul My pelvic bone is so sensitive too! Ouch! Doesn't sound like a great or eventful day there. I am sorry it did not go so well. christinesc -
